I'll be pposting pics soon , i have a small planter box with about 20 or so plants growing in em the plants range from 3weeks to a month and im not sure how well there doing for how long they've been planted. most of the bottom or first set of leaves have tured yellow and seem as if there dying , is that normal? also when should they be completly seperated? How much direct sunlight do they need out doors , currently they are getting between 8-10 hrs of direc sunlight a day.

thanks for any tips or help anyone has to offer.

separate them as soon as you can. the more time they grow the worse the damage to the roots you'll cause by separating them. don't worry if the set of round leaves fall off, if any of the serrated leaves are dying you have a problem.

your sunlight's fine.

The first two pics are of the 20 something plants in the single box , once more not sure when to ove em. pics 3-4 are of the same plant just wanted to see howit was doing. the last pic is of a plant my friend found and brought to me.. he transplanted it during the day so needless to say the majority of its leaves died, and imdoingmy best to keep it aalive trimmed off all the dead branches. Im looking foward to harvesting these bad boys so any help is apreciated!!!

thanks, i have them all in pots outside i did some browsng on here and read on a thread keeping them in pots can cause it to be hot for the roots also restricting light intake causeing the roots and stems to not thiken should my babys be moved into the soil most of the mare still seedlings or so it seems.

My plants also arent in any thing more special than ordinary potting soil and have been grown from seeds in the same soil, anyone know if these are on the right track , i have heard that keeping these plants outside in pots can overheat the soil is that correct?

you've got other things to worry about other than whether your soil is too hot. people grow in pots outdoors all the time - the pot soil will dry out faster than the ground but that's all you really have to track.

instead of pot temp, think pot size. each plant will grow to at least 2 square feet wide and three feet high. depending on what strain they could be a lot bigger. your two larger plants need bigger pots right now, they are not growing as they should because their roots are too crowded - try 3 gallon pots.

your planter will a thousand plants is a grower's nightmare. professionals never grow more than one plant per container unless the container is huge because the roots will entangle, the plants will compete for food, and it's difficult to repot without causing a lot of damage to the roots. that planter might work for two plants but not an army. i would strongly recommend you either try repotting now or kill(don't pull out, cut off) all but two of the plants.
