with the burlap
The 2 pluses are as follow
1) NO Digging ,Just lay the bag on the ground
2)Laying the bag on the ground will allow dew to collect on and be sucked in
If you are digging holes for them just put the dirt in the hole no need for the burlap

the burlap works either way. the advantage to digging a hole is you dont have to wait for the plant roots to anchor the bag and it cant get damaged if you bury it. it wicks in water the same way and in my experience the burlap dries out a bit above ground. i tried both ways a few years back and now i only bury them. good to hear others use burlap as well. its a great way to grow.

OK, so here's what I've got so far, made a few changes to original plan:

Southern Ontario
Strain:
The strain I plan on using can be found here, its called Summertime Buddha and is developped for ontario climates and they are ok priced.(I might also get feminised White Widow off Seedsman instead)
http://www.happygirl.ca/tsb_Indica_S..._Catalogue.htm
http://www.seedsman.com/en/cannabis-seeds/seedsman/seedsman-feminised-seeds?___store=seedsman_en&seeds_grows=4

Pre-planting:
My plan is to veg them inside and have em grow for a good 4-6 weeks before planting them at the grow spot(or spots) mid may(last frost should be around may 9th)

Potting:
I should be getting 15-30 seeds spread out between 3-5 seperate patches hopping to get at least 5-15 females.
I am going to be using burlap sacks(approx 5 gal. depending on where I get em) and dig holes to for them, planting 1 seeds per grow bag
Soil:
(thank you hillbillybob:smile:)
Most likely going to be using a mix of:
50% Peat moss
30-40%Compost
10-20% worm castings
1 cup of dolomite lime per cubic foot.

**Also planning on getting some polymer water crytals to mix with soil to reduce watering, does anyone know how much to use or anytihng about using these, just found out about them**

Fertilizer:
LC's Recipe #2
All these items combined with one gallon of soil mix.
1/3C hi N Guano (Mexican Bat Guano)
1/2C hi P Guano (Jamaican or Indonesian Bat Guano)
1TBS Jersey Greensand
1TBS Kelp Meal

**Anyone have any alternatives**

Watering:
Getting watering spikes that connect to 2L bottle full of water, and putting one in each sac for first few weeks until i get an actual system up and running.
Hopefully going to get a 6v water pump with a filter conected to a 1/2 inch hose that runs to the grow spot(s), if not then digging up a big hole for a reservoir or making a gavity based system, looking for specifics on how to build one of these

So all of this is going into full swing in the coming 2-3 weeks and i have a few questions.

How far should apart should plants be placed and how high should chicken wire be around a patch(there are definetly deer). Are there any other animal deterants out there too?

Im going to have some in a quarry, will weekly blasts effect the plants? there is already a lot of vegetation in there but im being a bit paranoid.

Also how important is dolomite lime? i dont think im gona have enough of the powdered kind, and my local shop only sells it in pellets

depending on how large they are, they should be a few feet apart in each patch. make sure they blend in with the vegetation well. the chicken wire should be at least 2 feet tall. there are things you can use to deter animals, including your own urine. pee in a circle around your plants [not to close though]. theres also stuff called liquid fence that can be sprayed around your plants. but these things fade after each rain and you have to do them fairly often. growing in a quarry that is being used doesnt sound like a great idea, people could spot your plants and the dust from the rocks might harm your plants. and lime is pretty important if your ph is off, try crushing up the pellets.

Too late for you this year, but perhaps a money saver for next: COMPOST! You can make your own for free, in fact composting can actualy save you $ if you pay for refuse hauling. Its relativly painless and you can cook up your own specialy for canna for example I use grass clippings(nitrogen), horse shit( rich in all 3), coffee grounds( sets a good PH of 6.8), egg shells(nitrogen), crab carcasses(very rich in Nitrogen) bannana skins(phospherus and pottash), and ground up corn cobs(potash). Each of these I can get localy for free. I mix everything up with the fall leaves(for bulk soil) from my front yard and by spring I have the best compost/soil money can buy. Its not a lot of work and youll have your $700 worth of mix youll need. And as a caveat, this mix will hold plenty of water so youll wont need to water at all unless you get a week or 2 with no rain.

But for this year go ahead and mix your chosen brand with the natural soil you find in the woods. Nature knows how to make a good bed of compost and the insects you get in the natural soil will help aeration and pest control. Notihng like built in spider mite killers. Just cover your plots with some forest leaves to help with moisture retention and make it look natural: nothing screams "I got Ganja growing here!!" like perlite laying on the ground.

Best of luck mate, hope to see a nice harvest from you this fall.

i agree with hill billy about blood meal and bone meal and the animals. but actually any new soil will attract skunks and coons, they will dig all that shit up. i suggest some sort of fence or some kind of animal control. it sucks doing all that work and check one day and noticed them all destroyed
