I subbed!

Hope you don't mind me tagging along for your ride!

Will help when I can, and you do the same for my ride.

Looks like your 3x3 holds the 2 gallon pots well, after this grow I may look into them.

Want to do a SOG in my 30 x 34 cabinet one of these grows.

Good luck dude and Peace out,

GR

Happy to have ya gr8 thank you for coming along!

Yeah if i wanted to jam the space packed with 2 gal's I could do 6,and with no room do 9, but much harder to maintain i reckon. After this grow i am contemplating either a SOG for the space, or a 1 or 2 huge plants mainlined for 16 , i never stop planning lol

Hey FJG. Great grow! Subbed up if it's ok. Just a quick newbie question. This is a soil type grow using 75% perlite, 25% vermiculite and 2 inches of top soil? That's it? Sorry I'm just having trouble wrapping my head around it. I guess I'm used to seeing ppl grow in super-soil and the like. I had no idea this was possible. :) I am a big fan of main-lining but the medium mixture threw me. How are they fed? Just like any other soil type grow? Thanks and best of luck with your little ladies! :) :peace:

It is a hempy bucket grow. period. lol, the only reason I put the soil on the top two inches was because it was recommended by a more experience RIU member, its keeps the perlite from flying out all over the tent if dry, just makes the hempy buckets easier to deal with

A hempy bucket is a Drain to waste system (DTW) which sounds like it is, in my case, 2 gallon buckets, with a hole about 2 inches up from the bottom, about 7/16" wide.

Then you i put my perlite/vemiculite mix in, actually keeping 100% perlite the first 2 inches, for the resivoir you just created. then capped with soil for the bonus.

This is just the way i did it this run, many others use 100% perlite hempys, coco coir hempys, etc. or a mix of all. these were started in rockwool then put directly into the 2 gallons.

Here is a couple hempy bucket instructions to learn more about it :)

And happy you are subbed mate!

Back when I was a member of a forum known as HG420 I met a guy named Hempy, this was his method and I have used it to great success ever since. If anyone here remembers HG420 you know how exclusive and how many of the worlds best growers frequented there.

The biggest benefit of this method is.......it's virtually free!

To make a hempy bucket is simple, all you need to do is this:

Get a bucket.

The size of the bucket can vary from 1gal(4lt) to 5gal(20lt).

Hempys' preferred size is a 2.5gl bucket, I use 5 gal for monster plants

Drill a drain hole in the side of the bucket about 2 inches from the bottom.

The drain hole should be 7/16". I've had better luck with 1/2" and larger perlite

The grow medium is perlite/vermiculite. I generally nix the Vermiculite as I notice it slows the rate at which the roots hit the bottom of the bucket due to the wick effect, but it makes things a little less high maintanence for the first week or two while waiting for the roots to make contact.

3 parts perlite to 1 part vermiculite.

You can use volcanic rocks (Hydroton) but the perlite/vermiculite is the preferred method.

Once you have your seedling sprouted fill the bucket with plain water every day until the tap root has reached the standing water that always remains in the bottom of the bucket. this will take about 10-14 days after the bean sprouts. If you use clones, plant the stem in the middle of the bucket as it will shorten time for roots to hit the bottom, however you loose space for the root ball by lowering the stem, if your in rockwool or anything like that what I like to do is bury the rockwool about 1" from the top of the perlite so it has a little support on the stem but allows the most space for the root mass, upon harvest you will be amazed with the size of the root mass! Also what I've been tending to do recently is water directly down the stem of the plant until you know it hit bottom, and trust me you will know when it hits the bottom, I also use PH'd and Nutrient filled water every other day w/ root stimulates, I've noticed this tends to speed things up but you don't want to let the salts build up in the bottom so when you water with fresh water use alot to run off the standing water at the bottom of the bucket.

Completely fill the Hempy Bucket with plain water, every two-three feedings. This will stop all the nutrients from going stale and building up salts in the bottom.

Use water that has been open overnight to allow the chlorine to escape, unless you can afford to buy filtered or distilled water..

Fill your water bucket or whatever you use to water with JUST water, no nutes, or PH until the following day, Add the nutrient solution to this water bucket and then adjust the ph to 6.0 For best results use an accurate ph meter and follow the nutes mfg reccomended amounts very carefully. Use precise measuring devices to make your nute solution.

Once your roots hit the bottom you will notice a much faster rate of growth and at this point is when you want to begin full strength feeding always, I like to add water/nute mix every 2 days, however I never let it get dry, you could water in theory every 5-7 days depening on the feeding rate of your plant, when I water I move the bucket to a utility sink or drain and I add until there is a little bit of run off allow it to level out

The strenght of your nutes depends on several factors such as how much light you have, humidity, CO2, strain your growing. You will have to use judgement, If your plant looks under fed or unhealthy add more nutrients, generally your mfg feeding schedule is going to be the safest bet without over feeding or burning, If you notice what looks like burnt tips on your leaves your under feeding. also look up plant deficiencies and get a feeling for what different defiencies look like since your medium isn't soil it will provide 0 anything for the plant. make sure to have a good line of nutrients, I always use 3 part nutes, Veg, Bloom and Micro and have had good results, I also use additives like Superthrive and other planet essential vitamins.

thats about it. Its a pretty simple way of having a passive hydroponic grow, I only use organic nutrients with my plants as well, I have had extremely impressive results compared to soil grows of identical clones side by side and I haven't looked back since.

subbed, always wanted to see a hempy grow,i am in for the trip. Can you tell me about the nutes you are using? Since the medium has zero to provide to the plant you need to provide everything yourself? how often do you feed? What do you feed ? How can you tell when needs water/nutes? What about mgn? Epsom salts does the job? ph is necessarry? anything else that you are adding? :eyesmoke:

Hello lospsi!

Glad to have you join buddy. :)

Yes with nutes I am using GH Flora series trio, and I reference this chart every feed: http://growweedeasy.com/sites/growweedeasy.com/files/grow-weed-General-Hydroponics-nutrient-schedule.pdf

(I use the left side 50%) Any time I start to exceed that I see a little nute burn on the tips so I stay at 50% of whats recommended on the bottle. I also have GH Calimag incase any issues arrise, about 2 weeks ago i added a very tiny amount to a feeding for sh!ts and giggles, it was too much for the Kush's.

I have been feeding with every watering since the roots hit the res. its about 2-3 times a week at the moment, What I do is literally just pick up the bucket or tilt it a bit even, and you can tell the weight of the bucket. after a week or two you'll learn the "feel" of your buckets. And you can tell when they are drinking rapidly. The buckets also help me maintain a perfect humidity level in my tent, maybe its the constant water in the res, who knows it works i don't knock it. lol. Tilting the bucket as i mentioned also helps, you can see how much water was drank and is currently in the res.

I Ph test every time just because good habits make a good grower, but with my water and nutes mixing I maintain a PH of 5.7-6 and haven't had any deficiencies yet. Every test its right where I want it, but I test for that some odd time it changes.

For flower I have liquid koolbloom additionally, I'll start very light with that.

The Mazar x WR seems that it could drink faster and produce more rapidly, has those nice true real green indica leaves, healthy in N, nice and thick. But since I mix my nutes 1 gallon at a time, i feed them all the same proportion. I suppose I could do the math and see what i need to mix the water for the mazar x WR and nutes alone, but its working perfect so i don't want to tweek anything yet.

Hey everybody! Little update for ya, The Critical Kush I topped for 8 (Now referring to as CK 8 8) took to the topping and bondage very well, you can see the two shoots growing on each arm:

CK8.jpg CK8-1.jpg

Here is CK1 (Left) and CK2 (Your other Left!) , still setup for 4 main's, think I will be leaving them for the 4 :

CK1-4.jpg CK2-4.jpg

Ok and last but not least is the Mazar x White Rhino, I topped two shoots, and as i wanted to try an experiment i FIMMED two shoots, looks like one didn't take to the fimming, maybe to early to see, but the other FIM looks good (middle), the last one i topped :

Hope your having a High Weekend!! Happy Growing Happy Thoughts!!

Looks great bro. Healthy and lush.
Thanks tags, Tried given them a tad more nutes today, around .5 ml more on the grow and micro per gallon, and just a tad more than I been giving on bloom, I'll see how they react to it, also gave em a low dose of calmag for fun, see what they can handle, so far I haven't over did it, see how far I can push em...

I'm along for the ride FJG.I love what you are doing man, everything looks great!
Thanks snappy! glad to have you mate :peace:

JNM - I keep my girls inline! haha  So far they go where I tell em, Eat what I say, and stick to my schedule arrangements, yeah cannabis pimp daddy I like the sound of that LOL

Sidenote: I love how main lined plants look like perfect Marijuana Menorahs for a Holy jewish stoner for Chanukah, Lol, Maybe I'll get a 9 header setup for the holidays ...

They are shaping up perfectly FJG. Great work.

You could flower those any time.

I started my Kosher Kush with not too much more
poking up, and it is not about 4' tall. Damn stretch! :0)

Good luck,

JD

Yeah I have been thinking about the stretch a lot, and when to flower, 'captainmorgan' just finished his run of critical kush, and his stretch was pretty intense, I am just estimating because i am too lazy to go look right now, but i believe they stretched 30 inches or so, he definitely had the sativa pheno. I have about 4.5 feet until the lights, i really have another 16 inches in height, if i remove the inline fan from the tent, but I was hoping to keep them at just under the 4' mark, Because i really dont want the inline fan outside the tent, but if i have to i will.

Once the Tops on the Mazar x WR show up a little more, and CK 1 and 2 develop another week, I think i'll feel a little more confident.

Question, Trimming to the most recent set of leaves is what nugbuckets recommends right? Before I flip should i trim the extra sites and leaf developing, or now i leave them? I know he says once the stretch is completed you can trim the under side etc, but he list optional, is their a benefit to leaving them or remove as much before flower?

Thanks JD, gives me more confidence to enter flower, i been thinking it was way too early

Hey FJG, as far as trimming from what I understood of Nugs' technique, he would trim anything that would not benefit the tops, to allow more energy to get to them. I believe any fan leaves that were not servicing the important bottom nodes of the colas and up, he would clear out for flowering. If I am mistaken please let me know because that is what I plan to do too. :)
