Flower Fever....Anyone Else Suffering?

I'm a dirt grower myself, maybe someone else can help with alternate methods?

castew. I don't think it's too late at all...good luck...

Chiceh, Lilacs are more bush-like 4 to 6 feet, but tolerate clay soil well...nice flowers...or
Laburnum ...10 to 18 feet with cool golden flowers I think they do ok in clay...
check your local nursery...old timers will know best if you can find one in a mom and pop shop.

some of my plants today

Very nice Chiceh!

The middle picture with the three gorgeous flowers is great!
What are those?

Thanks,
They are tulips. A new variety. The last 2 pics are the same flowers, different times of day. They are so cool. They close right up at night and open so wide in the day. I order all my bulbs, tubers and some perenials from Breck's directly from Holland. The Dutch know thier shit. I have some later blooming ones that are supposed to be unique as well. Can't wait to see them. I tend to go for different types of stuff, unique looking not your everyday things and dwarf varieties. My gardens are playful creative works of art, combining all types of flowers, plants, grasses, trees, shrubs and bushes. It is all coming to life right now and I am loving it. Will post new pics when other in bloom.

i'm jealous of you all. this is what i really want to do. friggin' marijuana keeps me all tied up though. i only peeked at a few of these pictures. the ones i saw are all beautiful.

how do i get started? i have no flower experience. something easy and beautiful to get me going? no daises or sunflowers. maybe exotics that are somewhat grower friendly?

i'm clueless but eager.

I grow mostly for photographs...

Hi fdd....I know what you mean by tied up...its way difficult to prioritize my time thru the day....
Nicotiana (aka flowering tobacco) is a cool plant to grow from seed. The seeds are tiny and getting them to germ is the only tricky thing about this plant. Just use a moistened toothpick to place seed in the germinating medium. do not cover all the way over with soil, simply press the seeds gently into the moistened medium, in about five to 10 days they will pop. Floros work great for first couple of weeks indoors.
They do well in part shade or full sun, and they are very aromatic.
Park seed has a great selection of seeds...
Have fun....

Hey fdd,
A good way to start maybe in containers. Go to your local garden centre and pick a few nice looking annuals. Dead head them through out the season if required and see if you can manage. Next year try a small garden and do the same with annuals. Just fill it up and watch them grow. If you are adventurous, then try a couple of perennials. Depends on where you put your garden though. Sun - day lillies, lillies, roses ( a bit hard for beginner though). Shade - hostas and ground covers.
I mix my gardens each year with the existing perennials with some new funky or colourful annuals, what ever mood I am in while buying the flowers.
I am new to growing marijuana but sure love gardening.

Nice shots chitrette....what is the one on far right....cool stuff....

Chiceh......I made the assumption that fdd wanted to start from seed.
It sure is a lot easier to BUY seedlings to put in, BUT, IMO nowhere near as much FUN.....
Actually buying little plants is maybe the best way to get going and see what you like.
As Nike says....just do it....:joint:

It is a little too cold to put my plants out yet today....Maybe I can put some plants in beds after this cold snap...Getting tired of moving containers in and out....

This is one of my favorite strains of sunflower, from last year...

Hey Wavels,
No better way to enjoy the gardens - with a nice buzz. I myself prefer to smoke a couple of bongs and walk around my gardens checking it all out.I hope to have some new pics soon,
Chiceh

i need to go shopping. i'm think of starting from seed. that way i get to experince the whole growth cycle.

thank you everyone for the motivation. now if i can just go do it.

Wavels, from the pics i've seen i think we had russian giant sunflowers last year. that's what kind of seeds i have for this year... they'll be growing in the vegetable garden, which i need to sow!!!

so far i have 15 tomato plants and one monstrous cabbage my son is growing for a contest.

awesome pics from everyone! :)

.

Hi 7x...You may want to consider a shorter multi flowered hybrid sunflower.
I think the russian giants produce only one flower and are then spent...sometimes the flower gets as big as a dinner plate.
Home depot or Loews garden center should have loads of multi flower varieties
Del Sol, Velvet Queen, Autumn Beauty, Chianti, Dorado....these don't need to be staked up, and you can take cuttings of flowers all summer.

Also what variety tomato are you growing?

for tomatoes, i've got cherry (gardener's delight??), big beef, roma, early girl. might be some crosses in there from last year too - we'll see.

just got my rabbit fencing so once i get that installed i'll get the other stuff started!

.

I've been wanting to grow flowers since the local flower shops are not only massively expensive, but also have completely shit quality flowers. What kind of flowers would be good to use in something like this?

Also, would rock wool be better than neoprene and pebbles, and is rock wool able to be re-used or is it torn up too much by the roots of flowers, cannabis, whatever is in there?

Still wondering if anyone knows about this? Also, what about the lava rocks that panheadcharlie asked about?

i did it!!!!! thank you everyone. now i just have to plant. can i plant all these in pots? it doesn't say on the package anything about root depth on any of these. i would like to grow them all in pots.
