Flowering Days

Was just on another sites forum and a guy posted pics of a scrog and said 12/12 day 10, flowering day 1.
I ask what he meant and this was his response.
"A lot is strain depending, but i usually watch the plant once i flip to 12/12 - once the most of her stretch is over and there is obvious signs of budding, it's time to start counting the flowering days down.
This plant in particular is Northern lights x big bud. Breeder says ~9 weeks flowering. She nearly always comes in bang on 9 weeks + the 7-10 days of stretch.
So really the extra 10 days are just really vigorous vegetative growth."

I have never heard this before and wanted to get others thoughts. I look at the breeders recommended days and as that day nears I begin check trichs, I go by trichs.

flowering doesnt start the instant you flip the lights to 12/12, it usually takes a week or so before it actually starts to flower.
i usually do 12/12 from seed grows and flowering doesnt start until about week 3-4 doing it that way.

And how big do they normally get doing it this way

When most people count days of flower they count from the day they flip not a day they think flowering has begun.
Sounds to me like someone trying to make it more difficult on themselves and can only lead to misleading numbers.

As I said I start at flip and only use the breeders suggested flowering days as a reference.
