Flush week? SFV OG

Hello everyone currently growing sfvog indoors in 2 gallon fabric pots using Fox farms ocean Forest and the expert line from general hydroponics with the schedule. Currently at week 7. So from my understanding there's two more weeks after 7 is over next week being the ripening phase and the week after the flush. Looking up this particular strain it says it's a 8 to 9 week harvest. A buddy of mine who grew the strain previous told me that he harvested at day 52 which is a little early and I also know the only true real way to know when to chop is when the hairs turn Amber when looking through a jewelers loop. Should I just stick to the schedule but has me flushing at week 9

What is flushing going to accomplish?

You'll find most people around here don't flush at all. There's no scientific evidence that flushing accomplishes anything. All it really does is starve your plant of nutrients at the end of its life cycle.

Your still looking at few weeks before you can harvest that.

Word I was thinking pushing out 1 extra but I guess the hairs will let me know right ?

Don't flush (and deprive your plants of their nutrition at the most vital time of their growth), just cure your harvested weed well that will give you the best smoke.

I was thinking the same thing but when I bought this line and sticking to the schedule it gives me the stuff called Flora clean to give it the last week. Everyone tells me to flush to get a cleaner smoke

It's the cure that determines the quality of the smoke.

Your plants don't take up their fertilizer in the salt form that the fertilizer comes in, the roots can only uptake nutrients as ions (which are aided by the microflora in your medium) or (VERY) small molecules that use cell membrane active transport mechanisms and your plants then go to work metabolizing and creating the biochemicals that make up the plant. It's just an old wives tale that the fertilizer itself somehow has some effect on the taste of the buds, that's crazy.

That Flora clean stuff as far as I know should only be used to deal with problems if you are having issues with salt build-up or nutrient lockout in your medium. I might start to taper them down to a lower amount of fertilizer as it gets near the end, but starving them completely of fertilizer means that the plant has to metabolize itself for the nutrients it needs.

So keep feeding regularly till harvest?

Follow the schedule you've been using with your fertilizer, so yes. There's a lot of contention on here about this issue but people have posted studies that have compared the two side by side and flushing does nothing for the quality or yield, and I just explained scientifically why it's wrong.

One thing that often is overlooked though is that people think that more fertilizer is better, but the most important nutrient to your plant is water itself.

The thing is to watch your plants, if they are green and healthy continue doing what you're doing. If they show signs of nutrient burn then scale back your fertilizer a bit. But ultimately follow what your plants are telling you, not what some strangers on a forum are telling you .
