I just finished this awesome Book about a Vet, in England, in the 1950"s, a Country Vet, that wrote short stories about his adventures with all the Horses,Cows, Sheep, Dogs & Cats, & the Owners. I laughed, I cried, then I laughed til I cried. His name is James Herriot, and He has several Animal related books out. Check Him Out.

Finally got my camera to work. Here are some pictures of the hummingbird hoard that has descended on us. 
The second to the last picture shows a black cap on the right. This little demon has been dodging and avoiding my camera for days. I finally got a good shot of him. I'm still trying to get a good pic of the Star Throat.

This is the most we've ever had. I've counted up to thirty hovering and drinking at one time. We have two feeders (large feeders) and I have to fill them daily.That's sweet! I wish they came around here like that.

When Feeders are exposed to direct Sunlight, the Sun causes the water in the sugar water to evaperate, living a stronger sugar solution. This strong sugar solution can cause Liver failure, so beware. A saucer with a clean sponge in it with sugar water will attract Butterflies & Bees. The Experts can't agree on the proper sugar/water ratio. 4 to 1 or 5 to 1. I go the safest route, 5 to one ratio.

I use a mix that is purchased through an online store for bird supplies. Both feeders are in the shade and I clean them out twice a week. Thank goodness there's no such thing as humidity around here or I would have to clean them daily.

My Mom had 30 or so flying around at any given time. During the Season, She had used 7 Lb's of Sugar. Experts say that for each one seen at the Feeder, that represents 6 or 7 more in the field. Also, I've read that they use the sugar as a quick protien that allows them the additional energy to "Catch" insects to eat.
Because they are SO territorial - guarding the food source-, I keep the feeders a long distance from each other.

I love watching hummingbirds got 2 feeders and maybe 4 or5 birds at each one. They like my butterfly bush about as much.
Oh back to the deer if you ever need a get away I will gladly "baby" sit for you. No charge of course. She sure is growing, doing good.

Same here. There at opposite ends of the back yard.
We've had some really bad wildfires this year and a lot of the feeding areas are now charcoal and dust. They have been overwhelming the feeders in our area. Everyone is talking about how many we have in this valley right now. They're everywhere.

Now that Baby's free to wander about the yard she's trying to play with my dog, deer and dogs don't play the same.
She runs up to him and licks him in the face and jumps side to side trying to provoke him, he really doesn't know what to do.
I trust he won't ever harm her but it's the funniest thing to watch. She's kicked him lightly a few times but she runs right after.

Sorry about that Fdd. I was excited about my hummers... err... hummingbirds. We've never had this many. I'll be good from now on.so this is no longer the "baby deer" thread?
i have a yard full of hummingbirds as well. i even blow my own glass feeders. i got hundreds of pics, of hummingbirds.
where's baby?
you know, the little baby deer that was here last week? i miss her.
