Germinating AutoFlowers Help!

Okay, so my friend received several auto-flowers and germinated them the way he does all the time. 7 out of 10 actually made it and are growing nicely, but 3 of them when germinated had a black tap root? They grow very weird and died very fast.... what did he do wrong? Any help plz!

he placed them in between 12 paper towels and put in ziplock baggy half shut... then placed in a warm place for several days... checking daily.
 
could be the seed company! not your friends falt. I ordered some auto flower and 7 out of 10 did well . come to find out they are not auto flower that were to finish in 7 to 9 weeks . they are now on day 8o and about 5 foot tall, the company said they must have sent the wrong mellons , so now the are resending me a dobble order for free.
