Germination fail

I tried sprouting some seeds in a paper towel and zip lock for 4 days and they didn't pop so I just planted them straight to the soil after.

Think my seeds are dead?

they had no damage that I could see

Could just have thick shells, give them 14 days before you give up and try again, dont go trying to move away layers of your medium to help either, let them be...

why don't you just pop them in a cup filled with water? In about 3 days, you should see them crack open with a tap root out. Good to plant. Takes about 24hrs for a good/healthy seed to germinate. Place them in a warm spot too.

OK, thanks, these are my buddies seeds and I got a bit nervous. I will give them more time

Does the water cup have to be kept in the darkness for this or will it germinate either way?

I get almost a 100% strike rate with paper towels no zip lock
