agree with what north ????????

LUDA.
I don't do the glass of water and all that mess. I'm old school. I put 'em in the soil and moisten it. Got over a 90% germ rate this way. Ya know what they say...if it ain't broke, don't fix it. LOL!!!

i agree with you doc. i was more prone to the soil method but iwanted to compare and contrast time tables for the paper napkin, to shot glass of water, to straight soil. 3 batches all with no progress haha. fuck patience :) i think my mad scientist died though :( i saw the dead seed. all shriveled. RIP mad scientist. you had great potential

do it right with viable seeds and 3-4 days they will be sprouts.

what do you mean mate ???????

CHRIS,
Hey I just had an idea for some device that we could invent and sell to grow shops that would germinate seeds. More unnecessary stuff for people to buy but hey I bet it would make us rich!!! LOL!

WELCOME TO RIU DUB!! =)

just a real quick thing to add if i may.

the way i do it is in a mason jar put warm water at the bottom just a lil, half inch to a inch make sure its warm though next you just simply put in paper towel shaped like a sack with them in it and drop them into it, then put top on it and put in a dresser or something another real good tip is warmth they sell like warming mats at local hydroponic stores or even reptile stores that keep the roots at optimal growing temp.! for sprouting planted seeds and as well as germing them! i get a 90% as well i believe =) well hope this helps i know it helped me!! =)

PEACE SMOKE =ONE

so if i am just plating them, should i make sure the root is facing down(even though they havent rooted yet) or will nature take its course and naturally turn so the tip finds light and surface?

if there is no taproot just plant them into the soil 5-7mm deep and keep the soil moist(not soaked)and keep the temp at 75* and humidity of around 60-70%(keep in dark untill they sprout and when the sprout give them light straight away avoiding stretch).
i have never check my humidity levels ever only my temps.
and i never fail to germ a seed YET.

starting seeds.
if you follow these instructions you are guaranteed sprouts in 3-4 days with good/average seeds.
here is the pics of the gear i use.
one shows the cheap plastic prop with the clear lid(humidity dome).
one shows a dry jiffys and shows how they fit in the prop nicely(room for 20 jiffys).
the pic of the swollen jiffy shows you how i prep them soak them in warm water untill fully soaked then just squeeze the excess water out and shape it how it looks in the pic.
and one pic just shows what kind of weight you want the jiffy to be once prepped.
if i am planting maybe 10 seeds then i will weigh each jiffy to 38g to give consistency with the moisture level you can give them a light misting of water after 12 hrs and that will do untill they sprout.
once this is done just make a small 5mm deep hole in the top of your prepped jiffys and just simply drop the seeds in there holes straight out the packet cover them slightly with some peat from the jiffy put them in the prop put the lid on and keep in a drawer in TOTAL DARKNESS make sure the temps are 21-23* and you are most definately going to get 100% germ rate within 70-85 hrs.
i have done over 100+ seeds for various people just to get their sprouts started and never had one not sprout.as soon as you see the peat cracking at the top of the pellet and life coming(any whiteness from the embrio/seed)then remove them from the dark and start your 18/6. NO LIGHT UNTILL THEN ONLY A QUICK CHECK ON PROGRESS.
i may do 6 seeds shortly for a friend and when i do i will show you the sprout as it cracks the jiffy
surface.
[EDIT]
(this info is from and earlier thread were i was explaining to someone how i germinate my seeds in to sprouts).

i dont know how to really send a personal msg on here? i am curious to what you have to say though. it all makes a lot of sense. i am reading the 'indoor bible' but i always like to get someone elses perspective on things. i mean its no secret that im a complete newb to growing on my own haha
