Germination Q's

I've been attempting to germinate these dumb seeds. It's been a week. Nothing. Do I give up??

The only thing I could have done wrong is the paper towels are sticking out of the plates. I don't think that's a big problem, but is that the problem??

shouldn't be a problem, might increase the drying rate a bit
were these bag seeds or something you bought?

when i germinate i have some of the pt hangin out but that doesnt affect anything cuz i put two lil plates together n stick it in a plastic ziplock on the dish box.. ive had my seeds do that also where they dint germ for me , it was like over a week too..
so i tried the pt method then put them in water n that worked but real slow.. it should be the other way around put the beaners in water for 24 hours then put in pt..goodluck

Yes, they were bag seeds, so that would be the obvious reason they are not working. My main problem was just wondering if the towel sticking out is a problem and if a week is to long. Im trying to grow bag seeds first so i don't waste money on seeds and it not work.

I also like to put them in a glass of water! I have done the paper towel thing and it works alright but doesnt seem to be quite as fast! If they are older seeds you have been storing not matter which way you germ. them they will take a bit longer than freshly ordered seeds.

nothing wrong with bag seeds, just you've got a little more unknown
since they are bag, here's one thing you could try, drop a few in a small glass of water
fertile seeds usually sink, and should crack open in 1-3 days
if they crack, pop them right in to the dirt, they're ready to grow

How deep should the glass be? does it need to be sealed?
not deep, a shot glass works fine, no more than an inch of water
the clearer the glass the better, let's you see the seed good
at the 1st sign of seed cracking, that's when it comes out, it will rot if left in the water
and no need to seal, that might be bad actually

So should I wait for the one that sank to crack? or go ahead and plant it?? I don't mean to be dumb about this, i'm just new..

wait for seeds to crack, some of the floaters will probably sink eventually, can take a while
but once the seed sinks, watch carefully for any cracking, might be able to see the bit of white that's the start of the root, when you see that, jackpot!, put her in the soil
