gnat infestation

wow i have an very bad gnat problem. been trying everything but to no good. anyone got ideas? i got wind on them, soil drys befor i water. dammit somone ?? ?

gnats are generally more of a nuisance to a healthy adult plant than anything. Weaker, younger plants are more affected by infestations. Their larvae feed on the roots.

Go to home depot, lowels, or a grow shop if you want your money taken. Pick up 'Mosquito Dunks' which contains B.t and break them up and sprinkle a fair amount of it in each pot. These dunks contain dried spores of B.t.i which will colonize and live in the soil. Then be ingested by the fungus gnat larvae which will cause them to forget to eat and starve to death. Quite interesting. Highly effective. Each application should work for 30 days.

Hello there i've had these before and they can reek havoc
on your plant and make it seem like your plant has some kind of
nute off balance as gnat larve feeds on root hairs and starve your plant
first order of business stop watering your soil plants so often
next cover top layer of soil with ether sand ,aquarium rocks or hydroton
i prefer hydroton so about a 2 inch layer
next spray pyrethrin on top layer of hydro ton every 2-3 days
walmart sells a very good brand of pyrethrin its made by
garden safe muliti purpose garden insect killer ive never had issues again

If you are going to a garden center, you can also look into nematodes. They will have them refrigerated if they do carry them.
It's a good option if you have organic soil. No good if you use salt based nutes.

check out the pest control section. thats all you should need. add it as a top layer to ur soil. Ad thats all you have to do.

I had a crazy gnat infestation myself. I went to home depot, bought some neem oil.... sprayed the hell out of the plants undersize of every leaf, top side of every leaf, all the soil, the stem everything after my lights turned off, I did it once for 2 days in succession, waited a week, then did it again. Haven't seen a gnat since. I HIGHLY recommend neem oil. I don't know what others will suggest, but hit them once for two days, wait, then hit them again. I bought some sticky traps aswell, but haven't gotten a single gnat on the traps because the neem oil killed all of them lol.

SNS 209 works awesome to control them at first. It's mostly rosemary extract and actually makes the plant nasty to the pests. Then there are these things called mosquito dunks. Ordered them from amazon. You crumble them on top of the soil and they put a microbe in the soil that does nothing to the plants but kills the larvae when they ingest it. Both are supposed to be organic. You can continue to kill the gnats but you have to kill the larvae to break the cycle. It takes about a week to break the cycle. Even if the damn things won't hurt your plants...who wants to smoke gnats that get stuck in trichs?

First off, Gnats are very damaging to your plants and can kill them. Their larva feed on your roots, and your plant will start looking yellow, or get other deficiency symptoms that will have you stumped and it's because of them. Don't let them weaken your plants so much they get fungus and die or something. They severely hurt your yields as well. If it were me treating them I would get the mosquito dunk crumbled, put it on top of your soil all over. It won't hurt your plants at all. Then I would pour sand ontop like another commenter posted. Also grab some fly tape while you're there.

Man gnats aint all that bad as long as you aint overwatering just use some sticky traps so they dont get outta hand or they will all get stuck in your trichromes i used gnatrol before not a single gnat but kills all your beneficials in your soil yeild odour potency all sucked for a gnat free grow never again. If all i can spot out is 5 or 6 gnats in a 5x5 tent good enough most likely cut off with trim not smoked i know one guy who only Waters his plants from the bottom not a single gnat in his grow, ive never had a plant twist or act at all hurt by gnats

To avoid gnats on your next grow, first pasteurize your soil in an oven to kill any eggs or larvae.
There are plenty of instructions available on the internet.
On my last grow, I used FoxFarm soil and I ended-up getting gnats from it.
Great soil otherwise!

You have to kill the larvae to stop further damage to your roots as the larvae eat your root hairs and you also have to kill the gnats to stop them reproducing.
I suffered with a gnat problem earlier in my grow, it wasn't a serious issue though but you will be surprised how much larvae can be in your pot when one gnat can lay up to 300 eggs.
I placed sticky traps around my grow room and also a few glasses of red wine and apple cider vinegar to attract the gnats and then drown them.
For the larvae I went to my nearest hydro shop and bought tanlin concentrate. I use one drop per 2 litres of feed/water once a week. The tanlin concentrate is non toxic to you and the plant so when mixed with the water and sucked up by the roots the larvae will end up eating the tanlin concentrate which will kill the larvae. Another thing I did to get rid of A LOT of the larvae was when I watered and the run off came through the pot into the saucer underneath (if you have one), hold up the pot until the run off has stopped and amongst the water in the saucer should be hundreds (depending on how serious the infestation is) of larvae, then just dispose of them.

They can get ridiculous in hydro real fast. I deal with them all the time. First time I got them they caused me a lot of deficiency issues because they fucked my roots up so bad.

LOL, Fox Farm, pretty good if you can get past the gnats. That's like saying, "This chick is a great fuck, if you can get past the herpes"

I dunno, cooking dirt in the oven isn't a great idea for most people, considering that most of us only have access to a standard home oven, but I bet it works.

Ok. i got some neem oil spray shit i got from home depot. i prayed the shit out of all the soil ontop and underneath the pots through the drain holes. this morning. i still seen a couple but nothing there was. should i spray again or will to much hurt my roots or my plant ? ??

if this dont work then its the Azamax or the dunks

I used to have a constant issue with Gnats in my Coco. The gnatrol is traumatic and I got tired of the stress. I now use Dr Bronners peppermint soap, cinnamon, and neem in a pump sprayer and hit the surface after I water 2-3x a week. The gnats do not stand a chance, plants are happy and for a day or two it smells like cinnamon in there. It is quite effective when used alongside sticky traps. Try it.

Dawn soap in a spray bottle. ?I mix 2 tbs of soap in a one litter bottle. Spay them when you get ready to water, then latter in the day hit them again. Spay everyday till there gone, and use sticky fly traps. Well works for me
