bongsmilieBest thing I've found to do is put sand on top of the soil I use quarts filter sand as it won't effect you ph to much that way the gnats can't penitrate so to reproduce and larve will die as they can't escape soil anything else may harm root system I go organic so there may be other things out there I'm not aware of slice a potato up in slices and after you water they will eat on it instead of you roots and trow away after a few days(outside made the mistake of throwing away in kitchen gnats were every where:wall:) keep doors shut and they wont get into house as much I hate those pesky thingsbongsmilie

i bought some stuff called zone from dutchmasters. it kills fungus and sterilizes the root zone so the larvae have nothing to eat and die. then hang a no pest strip by the bottom of your plants to keep them away takes about a week

i re-pot the plant, fill the top 2-3 inches with sand! leave out a jar or cup or bowl half filled with Witch Hazel (available at any drug/grocery store in the first aid section) to kill off anything thats hanging around. ive also left a cigarette or a cigar in a sealed bottle of water over night, well shaken, then strain out the tobacco so your just left with brown water, put that in a spray bottle and spray down your plant and the top of the soil. you can also mix a garlic and peppermint oil together and spray the mixture over yoru plants. be sure to get under all the leaves too.

I use neem oil as a foilar spray and I spray the top of the soil wheather its peat, hydroton, or soil; don't matter. Then I add this stuff called Natrol to the res. for a day. That gets everything gone, even other pests that you didn't know you had.

Personally, I use neem oil once a month until week 4 of flowering to maintain control of all pests. That stuff has plenty of trace elements and it makes the leaves real shiny. The plants love it! The Natrol will get rid of the larva in the medium and the neem will make it where the nats, mites, etc. can't reproduce.

In the same line of thinking, I do organic soil & when I do a saturation watering I noticed small "worm" looking critters in the overflow water - never took the time to inspect with glass & no ill effects to the widow's during two grows. No obvious flying critters in my grow room. Whats the odds that they were naturally occuring Predator Nematode's?
The soil was new and sterilized at the beginning of each grow & I do not re-use for obvious reasons.
Any Ideas?
