Grammatical Annoyances

spelling errors and typos are one thing. sentences that you have to sloooooooow dooooown to read are not worth reading. i lose all sense of the subject simply because i'm focused on deciphering the text. i can't really help with a plant issue if my brain hurts from code talking.

The way some people spell here makes it seem like I'm reading something from a 12 yr. old... it's hard to take them seriously. A couple of things that bother me when I hear them are: 'For God Sakes' and 'I could care less' (which means pretty much the opposite of what they are trying to say - 'I couldn't care less').

Yeah I can see how that can be an annoyance for someone with your particular social requirements.

I'm sorry if I have ever impeded you in that endeavor. Growing wisdom wins here at rollitup.

for all intensive purposes, this is not an attack thread. i'm hoping that this thread might actually be constructive.) ok so....anyone? <<< There is only supposed to be three full stops not four thats grammatically incorrect ( although im sure everything i write is grammaticly incorrect )

But its good to no you take pride in your language (our language)

"all intensive purposes"

I believe the phrase is, "for all intents and purposes."

People who mess up, you're and your, are my biggest pet peeve.:peace:
we have a winner :p

i think the original poster is not giving enough credit to the
grammatical abilities of your average 12 year old.
yes my instinct said "8 year old" but i didn't want to seem cruel.

So you get to choose which rules of grammar we should follow?

I think it's ridiculous to chastise people for their grammatical short comings while trotting out plenty of your own.
hmmm thats funny since i didnt chastise anyone in particular, unlike...*ahem* ^^^^

I get annoyed at people who get annoyed easily, it's definitely not a strength, it's kind of wimpy to be bothered by such trivial and irrelevant things.
are you being intentionally ironic?
if so: lol
if not: LOL!!1

spelling nazi's
GODWIN ALERT!
seriously though, this is a seperate discussion. a spelling nazi is someone who disrupts a discussion to play 'english tutor'.
i (we) are doing nothing of the sort. the very topic is spelling/grammar so if it offends you, the solution is simple.

I agree with the original poster. Some posts are hard to understand and if the title has a spelling mistake it makes it hard to use the search function properly. I dont bother reading a thread that has a poor spelling mistake in the title lol.

Also...

I'm not a fan of reading a "wall of text".

I mean, how hard is it to use the odd paragraph or two?!

Usually occurs when somebody is having a good old rant. Which are generally fun to read, but when it's all condensed into a solid block of text. It makes it very hard to read. Makes me go all blurry eyed.

My biggest pet peeve is when people say "Where is it at?" or " irregardless" You don't need to dangle your prepositions. Always correcting people on that one including my boss. Daughter of English Professor and Masters of Library Sciences regards

Thats English majors, just saying that if one uses correct grammar, then his chances if succeeding at getting a job or keeping a job are important. If someone wants to talk in layman terms or street talk, do that with friends and family. If I were an employer I would look at the way employees talked and spelled. I am not perfect in anyway but I guess that it is a matter of priorites of how well I spell and the way I structure my sentences and grammar. It does make a diffrence!!!! Cracking open a Theasaurus would help also. It is proven that men are better at math than linguistics then women and vice versa.

dear sir..

wow, how ironic i was going to post about my pet peeve

and went to the last page to post it and low and behold

the last post ACTUALLY contains said peeve.

the correct use of the phrase is: "couldnt care less"

NOT "could care less". if you could care less- this

literally means you CARE A LITTLE BIT.

no big deal-but it does make you look ignorant.

P.S. ( i dont use caps, and like to write with run-on sentences so im not perfect either)
