I Know What Your Think However Every Newbie Including Myself Didnt Pay Enough Attetion To The Most Taken For Granted The Most Important Ingredient WATER.Trust Me The More You Know About Your Water The Better Plants You Can Grow
Believe it or not, I read some of this. I am probably committing some sort of cardinal sin. When I first started again (2013), I was sitting my water out thinking of back in the day when chlorine would evaporate away. My locality uses chloramine which does NOT evaporate. I have been using Am-Quel in my water. I run 5 gallons into a water cooler, treat it, then put that into gallon jugs with whatever nutrient mix. It adds salt, but it's got to be low. My question would be, is this salt in the water going to be "amplified" trying to do that with hydro? Soaking in it is different than having the soil mix as a buffer, I know. It's 75 PPM out of the tap, so it's pretty good for tap water. After the Am-Quel, it's just under 100 PPM, 6.91 PH. You didn't think I was checking, did ya, Dawg? :hump: Some people say, they would just run with the chloramine as it's a detergent of sorts. I don't trust it. What do you think?

I get my water out of a dispenser at Cub Foods. Tested it and it's only about 15 ppm on average. Don't trust Walmart, though. I used it for years until I tested it and it was around 150 ppm! It was SUPPOSED to be RO filtered. It's a pain to lug those 3 gallon jugs around, but I can't afford an RO filter right now and I need the exercise sometimes anyway. :-)

I know that brother Dawg has an RO filter that filters out chloramines and that he wanted that feature, but he can tell you himself why. I don't know anything about it.

I don't mind picking up water. I was buying distilled water for a while. I will eventually just get an RO filter, probably. I should be ashamed of myself that Dave is more up for carrying that damned water than I am...lol. I will actually use LESS nutrients and water than I do now, I bet. I try to get at least 15% runoff, so it should be much less. I go through about 10 gallons a week now.

Did your tds pen have automatic temp compensation? The cheapies don't(like the crap from zero water)........ppms can vary wildly at different water temperatures.

No, mine's a good Hanna pen with temperature compensation. That Walmart water (from my local store at least) was the pits. Supposedly, someone tests the machine ever 2 weeks, but the testing must be faulty. I tested Cub Foods water at the same temp and it was about 15 ppm.

BTW GB, I might have tried tap water like you, but ours isn't as clean as yours is and it smells. I don't even give it to my cat, so I won't give it to my ladies either. Both my arms are fully functional and my pain is usually quiet during the day, so I like the exercise hauling water and stuff. :-)

Good to know............150ppm for RO is bad, think over 50 it needs to be labeled filtered/not RO??

Buying Distilled is the way to go anyways if your water source is a concern, guaranteed results.....

I use an under sink filtrete with a .05 micron carbon filter/last six months/splices into the cold water line/stupid easy installation & replacement........won't lower your tds though, but the Philly tap water tastes fantastic now IMO.

I don't know if all Walmart bulk RO out of their dispensers is bad. I think it was probably just something wrong with the dispensing machine. Must have been broken or poorly maintained. The machine at my Cub Foods is pretty similar, but the water there is better.

Pre-built is good if it's on sale... Saves the trouble of cutting holes the right size for those net pots. I always did it by hand with a sharp knife, which can be dangerous. Also, it takes a while to buy all the different parts separately.

I would only grow one or two big plants in that bin, though. I think 6 would be kinda crowded in there.

I'm planning to grow 2 plants in a bin that size (mine's 18 gal), but with Perlite inside like my last system, draining into a reservoir. I'd like to see the details of this system. It looks familiar. You got a link to the web site? (I used to always grow in DWC/bubbleponics, so I'm familiar with the idea and different variations of it.)

Edit: Just a note for something to watch out for... Plants in this type of system can get a little "tippy" when they grow tall, because the roots aren't anchored in dirt or anything solid. I think I dealt with that by tying branches down using the LST method, all around in every direction, starting early. (I still do that.) The strings anchor the plant down that way, so that it won't tip over so easy.

I think I'm going to put that on a dolly the same dimensions as the screen, mount my screen to the dolly, and then the whole thing can be wheeled out, rotated..whatever - like a nested box in the tent.

I forgot about your screen. That will anchor the plants in place. Furniture movers/dollies help me a lot when I need to move plants, as you know.

Are you going to use a water pump or maybe a shop vac to drain out the water? I used to put a bulkhead and drain spout as close to the bottom of the tub as I could, and drained out the res in my shower. But I also have a water pump that attaches to a drill, which only costs about $3 (at Menard's). I attached washing machine hoses to the pump, but garden hoses should work, too, if you go with that pump.

Edit: I just took a gander at that web site where you bought your kit. It looks like it comes with a drain valve just like the ones I used. Very nice. The setup looks just like The Dawg's with tubing that feeds nute solution directly into the net pots. Looks pretty complete.

Next Time You Order From Stealth Hydro Use Bubblehead As The Discount Code. This Should Save Your 20%.Now For This Weeks Homework https://www.rollitup.org/t/dwc-root-slime-cure-aka-how-to-breed-beneficial-microbes.361430/ Happy Reading
Somehow, I knew you were going to come along and say something like you knew of a discount. Many thanks, Dawg. I am not worried. The price seemed fair enough anyway. Thanks for the homework assignment. There is a TON of information out there, and it is not all factual. It helps to have knowledgeable people guiding your way. The community is lucky to have you here contributing as you do.

Got any coupon codes for that RO filter web site, Mr Dawg??? :weed:
I know they had a great "Black Friday" sale last year. Do you happen to know if they run sales at other times of the year? I can wait for a sale if one might come up around July 4th for example.

I just read a High Times article about the most potent strains of pot and Strawberry Cough was #7 on their list. I hope it turns out good for you, GB!

My yield sucked due to the overcrowding, but I REALLY like it. I would say it is now in my top 5 favorites. There just wasn't enough of it...lol.

OK, this is not really related to this grow, but I don't want to threadjack someone else to bitch and complain. I really wanted to try the Money Maker strain from Greenhouse seeds. 1 seed didn't germinate, which I understand is the breaks...moderately disappointed. Then yesterday, my first true hermie from the same strain. In the trash it goes. AND...I have two clones from the same plant that I was getting ready to move into flowering. So, lost 3 in one day. Did a little search on Money Maker on the internet...many of them go hermaphrodite. If any of you run it, I would recommend a back-up plan if you are on a tight schedule. I had 2 White Widow x Big Bud seedlings that I was getting ready to give away - - now, plan B
