Growing in a cold basement

I just set up a 4' x 4' enclosure in my basement. I thought that the 400 watt light would produce enough heat to keep it above 70, but it didn’t. With the light on the temperature was only about 65.

This is what I did... I have a propane heater that has a thermostat control. I put that in the grow room, and set it to about 78. The problem is that heat rises, and it would heat the ceiling and not the floor. So, I hooked up two small fans to the ceiling to push the hot air down when the heater is on (the fans turn off after the heater turns off).

The 18,000 BTU heater creates a lot of heat, and if I have the thermostat set at 78 it will actually heat much higher than that (because the thermostat only checks the temperature every 3 minutes). I set the thermostat at about 70, and it will heat the room between 70-80.

My question, With the heat fluctuation between 70-80 all day, is this going to be a problem?

i think your gonna be fine my grow is in my outdoor shed and its the middle of winter here in canada (last night was about -25*C) ive got 1 400w mh with a small space heater i got for 25 bux at walmart. at first i had just the 400w bulb but once outdoor temps hit minus 20 i put in the heater it fluctuates between +25 and +35*C which i believe is around the same as ur temps.

One thing i gotta say though is why not an electric heater the propane is a fire waiting to happen but that is up to you.

check out my baby at 16 days veg under 400w metal halide im gonna update once my batteries for my camera are charged. the little one is at19 days veg now and a noticible change in size!!

You shouldnt encounter any negative effects as long as its staying between 70-80 sounds like your doing a good job man good look and the propane should up the Co2 level so bonus Good luck

An electric heater would cost me more money. I have a propane heater, and I get propane for free.

aha well that sounds like a logical decision like i said as long as ur not worried about fire propane will work just fine and if ur in the usa electicity is fucking expensive i know. plus like rolln said using a propane heater in the grow room will up the c02 levels and weed plants infact all plants thrive on co2 so more power to ya!!!!
