Has anyone done pot size - yield Experiments?

agree, big pot`s do give bigger yield, sure, if you have optimal conditions/genetic to make use of it all, Im sure there are limits

but looking at them pictures, I would maybe have considered to plow the hole ground, and buy a few wagon loades of soil/compost instead

treat it right (mearl/kelp/worm farming) and you can grow in it year after year, IMO pot`s is for indoor growers, why restrict the roots atall, or not take advances of the draining the ground offer, and the ground water "mirro"

only reason I might see it make sense, is if you have a balcony, or if you have safety issues or need to be abel to move em for some reason (light/bad wether/night frost)

but sure every one to there liking

Give u a few reasons y pots are better for me slipon. Gophers and its not my property. Some should do lots of reading before commenting and a lil personal experience helps as well.

That guys grows are organic. I bet He recycles or amends it yearly And yes it comes in dump truck loads with the same stuff you mentioned in it. Cant tell if they are air pots. That would be one reason for using a pot. They other is less of a footprint on rented land or just the land it's self. Don't forget weather in ground or huge pots MJ's roots will only spread so far. So when using a pot that big, planting in ground wouldn't get you any better results.

757, That's why I use pots is because of gophers. But I cut the bottoms out of them this year after reading in wootens thread that gophers only go two feet deep. So my 20 gallon nursery pots buried in the ground have no bottoms. Im gonna be pissed at Wooten if a damn super gopher pulls my shit under ! lol :o :weed:

After last year, I'll never grow in pots again. Even large pots are nothing compared to her stretching her roots in the dirt. I am wondering something this year...I have plants in starter pots but what would the plant do if just put on the ground in the original quart container while it's roots stretched into the dirt thru the wholes in the bottom of the container? I am going to try it.

and sorry, did`t think of that, don't have Gophers in my part of the world, I think worse thing in my country is them killer snails and mite`s tho Im sure the risk of theft is bigger then both of them

The roots grow out of the holes pretty darn good though. lol I have a 35 gallon trash can I bury and drilled mega two inch holes all over the bottom and up the side a bit. When I pull the bucket the hole has lots of roots in it. A quart container ( like a root pot) is pretty small though..... lol... check this out.. My veggie garden is all in buried buckets. I have 1 corn stalk each in 1 gallon buckets. 25 stalks or so and are growing fine. lol so far it's worked.

know whats funny... during winter I stacked my 30 gal smartpots 3 high still with soil in them and when I went to move them in spring gophers had eaten through the bottoms of the 2 bottom pots though they didn't go up into them. I'm more concerned about my potted plants being attacked by gophers than the ones in the ground.

Dude, I did corn last year as a cover crop and I fucking hated that shit ... the pollen is huge and there's a fuck ton of it... and it rains down upon the herb and sticks ... totally lame.

Oh shit ! :mrgreen: They are on opposite side of the yard except for one I really don't care about. A random seed I put on the garden who's kicking but though. lol bongsmilie
