I just got reply from CBD-lightning,
the IT5498 costs 12,94€/100mm excl. BTW
so one 130cm bar would cost 204€ incl taxes without shipping, that's pricy

Just ask them if they can cut for you a 600 mm length...
Maybe they can do that ..
It should go whole length, so actually 130cm and if they're in 1 long piece i think it will be more solid, the entire shelf i mean, but it's a lot of weigth indeed

ps: maybe the heatsinks themself can be the shelf with a plate on top, serieusly reinforced ofcourse

Got a quote from BAL group aka Birmingham Aluminium (credit to Happy75 for the find)

EDIT : Was actually 1371HS and not 1372HS like previously stated !

I beleive its about 310cm²/inch, and looks great for passive cooling :cool:

This is a big ass HS, 0.9cm thick base, 15cm width.
Only downside is the weight, thicker base comes at a cost : weighs 7.27 kgs/metre, now that is some heavy stuff. If you have a cheap growbox, that could be to much to handle.

Price I got is €73 for 43 inch peices. This excludes VAT, but includes shipping ! (Same alluminium alloy as HS-USA)
5.88 profile from heatsinkusa which is 'only' 260cm²/inch goes for 126€ each if you include shipping to my country (86€ without shipping).

I was looking for a viable alternative, but this is better than I expected, and is simply best I've found for my needs, so far.

I'm waiting on another quote, for the 1360HS profile, http://www.bal-group.com/heatsink_detail/73
This one is +-284cm²/inch I think, so better than the 5.88 profile (260cm²/inch), and in all logic, should be cheaper than 1372HS above.

I'll keep you guys posted.

Great prices, i thought they didn't sell private, only to companies ?
A big difference in cooling capacity at 1m/s for 43inch : 1360HS (0.205°C/W) <-> , 1372HS (0.088°C/W) !
How much Watt can we cool with that ?

Is cm2/inch a standard metric used in the heatsink world? Serious question as we seem to be mixing metric with imperial. Also, I still can't seem to grasp this c/w metric. Is there a quick primer? I am trying to figure out how to take the dissipated W (i.e. the "inefficiency W of the COB" which I'll generalise at around 60% of the drawn W on the COB for safety's sake) and apply that to the thermal resistance figure or the cm2/inch numbers.

This was the best I seem to come up with so far.....but still far from great.

I too have been in touch with BAL group and requested a quote for 8 x 1 meter lengths of the 1343HS. It came to £231.46 including VAT, it didn't include shipping prices though. Still a good deal!

Sorry, my quote was actually for the 1371HS, not the 1372HS, edited my previous msg ..
Base is a 0.9cm not 1, and width is 15cm, not 16.

Area was close to correct tho :bigjoint:

Don't know, :bigjoint:, but I think both of them are 160 mm wide with sixteen 35 mm fins, the only difference is in the base height: 8,5 (1071) vs. 9,2 mm (1072), in inches 0,335 vs. 0,36.

My :bigjoint:attempt: 1071HS estimate perimeter in mm, as if all fins were straight instead of tapered and all corners perfectly square:
(160 wide * 2 sides) + (8,5 base heigth * 2 sides) + (16 fins * 35 fin height * 2 sides) = 1457 => 145,7*2,54 = 370 cm²/in.
(1072HS perimeter 1457+(2*7)=1471 mm => 373,6 cm²/in).
