Help! I’m stuck to my bubble hash!

I probably should start another thread on this, but I did before…..so, I’ll try to add to this one.

My problem is in the drying of bubble hash.

Planing it after squishing it FLAT to get the water out does NOT work well…..as in trying to plane a piece of flat paper….so, I was wondering if leaving it in a heap, as it comes off the spoon, would leave it too wet….if it’s put in the freezer after? (I know some don’t put it in the freezer).

Oh, and once I plane it after it’s out of the freezer and put it back in the refrigerator for a week, should I put it in the freezer or fridge for keeping? It doesn’t seem dry enough to keep in room temperature.

What other ways work well after plopping it off the spoon?….to dry, I mean.

Any suggestions are welcome.

thanks! :peace:

I take it all the way down to pure oil and no alcohol. I promise that you will make more as bubble has the lowest yields of all the extraction processes and you seem to be losing quite a bit of what you are yielding. That bubble is about enjoying top notch flavor profiles and having really clean hash as to where RSO is about medicine. Don't get me wrong, I have bubble bags and a press because I love dabbing top notch stuff but you are doing a lot of work to have nice restful nights. RSO will be easier for that and you should expect a return of about 25%..... No drying method needed

Pure oil and no alcohol would be what I scrape off the plate as hash. But, I do that last part in a plate. Do you leave it in the boiler/pot? If so, how do you know all the alcohol is all the way down to pure oil?..the smell?

Thanks again! It does sound a lot easier than all this!!!! I’ve been making tincture for years now. Seems like it’ll just be boiled down further. Lots easier. If this works, it’ll save me a lot of time. My illness is Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, so any energy I can save is like saving a drop of gold :) .

I have invested in one of those Source Turbos to recover my alcohol but I find it easiest to remove it from the machine with a small amount of alcohol left and then finish it in the oven on a silicone mat. Rice cookers work good but just make sure you are outdoors. There are a ton of videos and such out there and they all generally fall in the same line unlike the videos that had you trying all different bubble methods before. RSO stands for Rick Simpson Oil by the way and you should be able to find more than a wealth of info with those 3 words alone. This will be so much easier on you. Feel free to hit me up and ask any questions you have.

1st attempt using bubble bags, I gathered the hash from the bag and put it on a silicone cover then into my tent and put it at the dehumidifier for 3 day's.

Once dried I poured it into a roasting/oven bag to hand press.

I didn't need to touch it at any point.

I guess for 68 and 1/2! And with a lot of hash all over it, I guess so!!!! :-P
Love to see an aged female smoker. My nana would be about your age, maybe a handful years younger if she was still alive. Great woman. Loved to garden and…. Smoke pot lol.

keep growing and stay healthy. Hash is awesome. No tips for your hash as I have no idea just wanted to say have a great evening

I just started making bubble hash this year and through my research I decided to avoid the freezing and microplaning after seeing many have the same problem.
I decided to break up my fresh bubble with a mesh sieve and a spoon. I never even have to touch the hash and when it gets to warm I just throw the bubble and sieve in the freezer for a minute and get back to it.
Check out bubbleman's and frenchy cannolis videos on YouTube as they prefer the sieve.

Good luck and keep at it because when you get that perfect hash after you have figured it out you will have a great sense of accomplishment creating your own perfect medicine.

What's micro planing?

Eta... Also how many grams do you consume for a good stone?
It's just a kitchen tool used to break up a hash clump into a fine powder so that it can dry evenly. I think it is also called a zester. Have a look Matt Rize "ice wax" method and you will see how he microplanes his bubble hash.

I’m going to try that next time. I made the mistake of putting it in the freezer last time; then, when it was difficult to micro plane, I looked at another video which showed the sieve…..Well, I decided to try it. It was too late to do it that way after it was frozen because when I thawed it and tried the sieve it STUCK all over it and wouldn’t come off. I got back on the forum, posted a photo of it and got some advice to freeze it inside a zip loc; knock it against something hard & it shattered. Most of it came off.

So, next time, I’ll try it this way.

Thanks!

Thanks. I’m just an old(er) hippie who always liked my pot. Bet your nana was a cool lady. :peace:

Won't it dry if you just spread it out on something glass so it's in a thin layer? I dry out iso extracted resin that I washed with water that way, takes about 24 hours. Then I scrape it off with a paint scraper blade, those ones that look like a one edged razor blade. If resin will dry that way, why wouldn't bubble hash? You could get most of the water out first by putting it on a paper coffee filter and several layers of paper towel under that, it would wick it out. Or I guess maybe leave it right on the bubble filter and put the paper towel under that, if it comes off the screen cleaner than off coffee filter. If you do use a coffee filter use the kind that are cup shaped with pleated sides, not the cone ones, they're smoother.

Here's a cake of resin I just made actually. I melted and mixed it up for 5 minutes total, mixing it after 1 minute at a time of heating in the microwave on parchment paper on a pyrex plate, after part of it melts and starts bubbling. It's in powder and chips at first, after being scraped off the glass container it was dried on. I just spread it around the container with a spoon so it's a thin layer so it will dry well. After heating and mixing, I work it around inside the parchment paper with a spoon while it's a clay-like mass, scraping the outer parts off the paper with a small knife and adding it into the main blob, the knife is also good for scraping it off the spoon. As you can see, I folded the paper over after it was nicely mixed, so it has a straight edge where the fold was, then I just pressed the curved edge in with the paper to make it nice and smooth and rounded, after flattening it out to about 1/4" thickness.

This is a 40 grammer here, it's solid after it cools and then I peel the paper off. That's not the piece of paper I used for the mixing and squeezing, I just used a clean piece to sit it on. Some gets stuck on the melting and mixing one so I keep reusing it for later batches. I just fold the paper up with the residue on the inside part and store it until next time, I've used it a bunch of times already. I only use pure paper type parchment, not the kind with silicone on it, that might get silicone in the resin if some of the paper fibers scrape off. Parchment might actually be good for you to use to handle your bubble hash, kind of like a glove but without fingers. I use a square of it like the one in the image as a glove type thing to strip the buds off the stems of the plants after 48 hours of hanging, so resin doesn't get all over my hand. It doesn't stick as much to parchment as plastic gloves. Since parchment is flexible it's almost like a glove, just it's not attached to your hand, you're just holding it like a layer between your hand and the sticky stuff.

Forgot to mention, I did heat the glass container that I dried the resin in at first. I used the microwave to get it fairly hot after I spread it around, though not enough to actually make it bubble or anything, not even enough to boil water just fairly hot. You know how a microwave will heat glass up, well that's all I was trying to do. Then I let it sit for a little while until it cooled off and then hit it again. After the second time I just left it to sit out at room temperature for a day. It doesn't degrade or anything, it was still white with just a hint of amber. If it degraded it wouldn't even solidify, because cannabinol isn't crystalline. In fact, the residue on the spoon stays white even until the next batch, which is about 6 weeks, it's surprisingly stable. However, the residue on the scraper blade does turn dark, because it's not stainless steel, it's just regular steel, which will catalyze decarboxylation at room temperature. I don't know if it goes farther to the point of cannabinol, maybe. Smooth stainless steel seems pretty inert though. Actually, I guess if a person wanted to decarb some resin without heating it they could spread it on a sheet of plain steel.

BTW, thank you for all the information on this. I’ll look it up. Got too busy & didn’t get to answer you until now. I’ve been thinking about it. Not too sure I want to spend all that $$$ on the Everclear since I have to smoke .35+ grams a night to sleep. But, 25% is much better than the 6.something% I got on my last bubble hash batches & did FOUR runs. …and, more than half a day with both my husband & myself working on it…with a big mess….so, it’s tempting ;).

I’ll surely check it out.
Thanks again.

I promise that you wont need 350 mg to sleep well. Like I said, I take 100 mg a night so a gram is 10 nights of sleep and I suspect that you would be taking a smaller dose on a nightly basis thus stretching yours even further.
