Help naming my rottweiler puppy

Thanks for that advice. So does this mean i do not have to try and show dominance towards the dog? Should I just treat him as i would like to treat myself? Seems like chewing might be a problem... is there a command like OFF or something that could be taught with positive reinforcement?
What about exercise? What and how much is acceptable until adulthood? What about at adulthood?
The puppy is only 1 month and a week and a bit old but whenever he sits on his own i say YES and give him a lot of praise and such

Dog's don't think like we do. Dominance isn't the issue as much as leadership. There is a huge difference. Leadership is being chosen by your behavior. The dog will try to see if it's smarter, not direct IQ measurement but testing you outdoors. That's why you walk your dog. If you search kikopup on youtube she has a lot of good suggestions.

You need to be the alpha in your pack. He is not your little furry child and is perfectly happy and content being 2nd. Lots of exercise and positive reinforcement. His guarding and protective abilities are inherent in the breed and don't have to be taught. Socialize him early (now) with other pups, kids, adults, cars etc. This is important. Teach him to walk properly on leash and to always pay attention to you. Teach him STOP (freeze in his tracks) and RELEASE (anything in his mouth). You need to read up on this breed and training specifics. Dogs are masters of non-verbal communication (interpretation of body language) so be aware. Good luck with your life companion! (Make sure he is friends with your vet)

Thanks a lot. Hm it makes sense that an animal would respond better if hes being led rather than dominated. I will bookmark kikopup's page thanks!

A lot of sound advice. Though i was told that until hes 2 months and has had his shots that he should not be with other dogs due to risk of contracting illnesses, it makes sense to me. Wrong?
What about the exercise does anyone care to fill in? How much and what is acceptable until hes an adult, and after that?

I missed how old he was, yes, 8 weeks and all shots first, Pups will sleep a bunch, just conk out, throughout the day. He'll let you know when he's tired. Keep your training times short and happy. Some say not to jump young Rotts excessively due to possible hip problems. Get him used to having his feet, teeth, ears handled properly(not play time). 4-14 weeks is crucial pup learning time. Get some books and read up. Katherine Nicholas and Murial Freeman have excellent Rottweiler specific books.

from the breakfast club... anyways thought she was hot so I took a girlfriend to see what I kinda thought was a horror movie.. like Cuju... but modern..anyways.. the dog in the movie was HUGE...

Thanks a lot for the reccomendation, after this post amazon will have to drone me a book lol. What is meant by having those parts of the body handled propperly? I suppose for cleaning and grooming purposes? I had no idea dogs needs their ears cleaned? Also the pups nails look a bit big can they be cut at this young age? my neighbour told me not to cut them, though he also told me to give him a wee smack on the bum whenever he pees or poos where he ought not to (needless to say i never do that).

Ps> He sleeps more than the cat, id say easily 20 hours sleeping lol

That trailer made me totally and completely destroy my kidneys with laughter.

We didnt get many movies nor cinema in my town growing up, I must have missed so much hilarious stuff from the 80s and the 90s. Or maybe its just funny now and it seemed dead serious back then? I mean could it seem serious? Maybe its just the clip... Might see if amazon can drone that too

And i might just have to go with daisy!

Library may have books you need. Have vet show you how to clip nails. Getting them used to being "handled" makes things so much easier when vet sees them, getting nails trimmed, teeth cleaned etc. Also a bonding mechanism, they liked to be touched. He will also start to follow you everywhere which is a breed trait.

Couldn't agree more with theses two posts !! Great advise!!!!
Rotts are known a versitile breed. They seem to be a good working & even sporting type dog.

I have labs & a shepherd & find that when they learn that you can/will lead them safely through all the elements..... they'll learn to trust you with their life & they wont break eye contact for too long otherwise, when you insist. You can sometimes even communicate with mere head movements & facial expressions. They'll follow your lead to no end & will even mutually protect you with their life if needed.

It's good to see that you want to completely understand the relation & what it's based on(Leadership,trust & lots of love). Good to know you realize there's no need for abuse cause I believe just getting/holding their attention while not backing down is key, regardless of the breed. You really get as much as you give or put into it .......& it looks like you two are going to have a long happy life together. It's pretty cool to understand the language of "Dogs".

my advice to a new rott owner is 1)don't let 'em ride in the back of the truck 2)don't have them jumping a lot(watch those hips)

Maybe Rodney, he kind of looks like a Rodney. Brutus maybe also, I see a little Brutus in him. Tokie is a cool name I think too, after all he will protect u and let u know if some one is coming so u can put the reefer away and hide it.

Wow people thanks for all the input. It might be easier than im making it in my head, i just want to be sure i can give him the best i can. From what you people are saying it seems like i couldnt have chosen a better breed for the type of person i am. It does seem though that i need to introduce him to as many people and scenarios as possible and have kids petting him calmly and gently so he doesnt associate petting with being excited but rather with being calm and relaxed.
As for the name I dont know why but the name Kilo and Surname Bricks is sounding well nice. Kilo Bricks. Hahaha Kilo also sounds good when shouted
For now i think hes just like a baby he wakes me up every couple of hours doing like plea?!(he goes auhn auhn until i show up and he starts wagging his tail) noises.

Clint 308, isnt hooch the corn licker you guys brew up in the mountins? It does sound good too!
