My light just went off.. starting making a buzzing noise. It is only 2 weeks old, been on 24/7. 250w florasun from HTGsupply with an EYE MH conversion bulb. The bulb looks like its got some greenish orangish liquid in it or something?? what the hell happened, what I am gonna do? I have a HPS bulb, hopefully it is just the bulb causing the issues. If it is, can I replace it with the HPS bulb and still be ok?? please help! This may have something to do with increased humidity in my grow room but I have no idea EDIT: the HPS bulb works.. will the plants be alright if I leave them under the HPS and a 125w cfl?

running a MH or HPS 24/7 is not a good idea. most manufacturers recommend a few hrs a day off. humidity should not be a problem but if water got dripped or sprayed onto a hot bulb, that could be your cause
if your fixture is rated for both MH and HPS, it wont be a problem but if the ballast is a MH only ballast,a HPS bulb wont work- get a few CFLs for now till you can replace the bulb

It is a HPS ballast, built in ballast fixture, the bulb was a MH conversion bulb. I am broke, I cant get any cfls right now. I put the light back on them with the HPS bulb instead. The light had a glass lense so no water got on the bulb. It looks like the gas cooked off on the inside of it or something.. There is some green shit vaporized onto the little glass thing inside the bulb.. Will my plants be ok under the HPS until I can get another MH conversion bulb?? I already put the HPS into the grow area because I dont want them sitting there in the dark, they are still young

Take your bulb back, they wil give you a new one.

Ordered it from texas off the internet.. I;d have to drive for about 7 days straight. The soonest I could get a new bulb is monday, they will have to sit under 250w HPS till then. Shit, I hope they will be alright with the sudden change in spectrum

By the way I dig your avatar.

Thanks.. shooting is one of my favorite hobbies. Anyway, so i can keep them under the HPS until I get a new bulb and it wont hurt them? I'm all stressed now, because I just flushed my plants (they are babies and the pH was off) today too so they weren't looking to good, maybe a lil shocked. I posted another thread about it earlier, feel free to take a look if you'd like. I am just worried now between the flush today and change of ligthing (which is also gonna jack the temperature up and humidity down) that they are gonna be quite traumatized :( I just stuck a 4ft cool white fluoro tube standing up in the corner of the room, its kinda far from the plants but its the best I can do for now to try to give them some blue spectrum.. There is also a 125w 6400k cfl hanging on the other side of the room.

Can you bring the plants closer to the Fluro and wait for mh?
nope, and there is no where near enough fluro in there... I've got 8 plants (babies) in the grow space. They are gonna have to stay under the HPS for quite a while, more than two weeks.. as HTGsupply cant ship me my 400w light that I ordered till then. I am like flat broke now and cant even afford to drive out to the hydro store and buy a conversion bulb. At least my HPS bulb is apparently enhanced spectrum (if this is legit) and gives off a little bit of blue.

I veg under hps sometimes (when I'm getting my plants to a good height to start flowering) and it works great

HPS is fine.have done several grows w/ only HPS-also done a few w/ ony MH.
if the plants are new, be careful about getting 2 close and burning them.hold your hand just above the plants for a minute,if its to hot to be comfortable, your plant will feel the same

I would not suggest running an h.i.d lamp 24/7. And your hps will work fine. In my opinion I wouldn't even bother with conversion bulbs. They are expensive and inefficient at converting lumens. Opposed to a mh on a mh ballast. When you get the money go with digital ballasts. You can interchange both mh and hps on them. Saves you money and headaches. But for now stick with the hps.

I have been told by a sales rep that HID lights need to cool down & that they need a hr or 2 per day
Oh true that, I never thought of that. I use T5HO 4' 8 bulb 24/0 No worrys for me, I just forget to think of others.
+reps man, I will be aware of this when I tell others 24/0

its probably not a universal bulb so you might of not had it positioned right , and its probably some type of mecury inside of it .
