too clean, looks like someone plucked it off or snapped it in half and removed the dead piece.
I don't see anything snapped or broken there. Something just came by for a sample of your leaves. I had this happen a couple of times earlier this year, and even had two little ones like that pulled out entirely. To protect against bugs, put the plant on a brick or board in the middle of a pan of water, and to protect against birds, cats, whatever, cover the plant with a dome formed from 1/4" harware cloth or something similar. Just need to do that until the plants are a little larger and stronger so they can take a bit of abuse like that.
