Hempy Bucket Mix

It doesn't sound like you think I should be that worried about pollen introduced into my room though eh, or should I?
.
THseaman..... Honestly, No. If you want to set your mind at total ease - take each plant and mist it with plain water, 15 to 20 minutes before lights on. That will take out any pollen present, if any is present.

Yeah, I went ahead and sprayed them with plain ph'd water already. That was the advice the guy at the grow store gave me (that was an akward conversation to have over the phone having to filter my words so I didn't get hung up on, lol.) Best I can do I guess. It probably wont be a big deal, just like the algae wasn't. I guess the worst case scenario is, I get a couple of seeds in a couple plants.

Oh and I changed my mind about transplanting. I found some 3 gallon plastic cleaning buckets at the dollar store. There were exactly 21 of them...I figured that was a sign I should transplant. Dollar stores are fucking awesome by the way. 3 gallon buckets are like $3-6 EACH every place I've seen. The one's I got are almost identical to the ones that ACE charges $4.50 for. I saved like $75!

So, I will transplant tomorrow just before watering them. I'll give them a lil superthrive after I transplant and an extra hour of dark for a couple days. I'm still going to go ahead and flip them to 12/12 early next week I think. Probably 48hrs after I transplant I will go to 36hrs of dark followed by 12/12.

I transplanted all my girls into 3g buckets this week. Used 3 parts Perlite, 1 part Vermiculite. Flushed them with 1/4 tsp superthrive per gallon of ph'd water after the transplant. They are doing great after the transplant. They aren't growing up much lately, but definitely growing out, which is nice. I've had about a half dozen plants show female sex. No more males yet. I'm holding off on flipping them for a wee bit longer. Sometime in the next week for sure, Thursday at the latest.

My buddy helped me frame a foam dividing wall today. So now I can start 24 new plants (from seed again, but this time starting in oasis cubes) under the T5s when I start to flower these. Installed a 6" inline can fan for my flower room intake(from the crawl space), and an 8" inline can fan pulling through a can 75 for odor, venting my hoods, and then running back out to the grow room side for out vent. The grow side of the room gets fresh air in from the house vent.

Anyway, that's what's going on. I was too tired to take pics tonight after all the work. I will take pics over the wknd.

Okay, time for a pic update. Here are some pics of my new room setup and of course my ladies. About 8 of them have shown female sex! Last week before flower!

Does anybody think my new flower room is cool? I still have to put the black plastic door up today. I'm going to put velcro along the sides of a 8' L x 3' W sheet of black plastic and staple it to the top stud of my doorway. When I want in I'll just unvelcro the sides, roll it up and bungee it to hooks at the top.

Anybody got any feedback on how things are coming along?

It's the RS8 (8") Can fan. It pulls 493cfm. Room is 12x10, so it's about twice what I need. But, they are cheaper if you buy them as combos and the filter that came with the 6" fan wasn't big enough for future plans. The intake fan is the 6" and pulls in 248cfm of fresh air from the crawl space through the heat vent that was already there. I just inverted the reducer that spilled out into the room before and wrapped duct tape around it, attached the 6" ducting and vaola!

Nice read so far. I may go hempy later on but I will go from clone rather than bean. Pretty slow to get started but they are going now! Keep it up.

I love Colorado

Thanks for stopping by! Starting from clone/rooted seedling is definitely faster. But now my plants are growing nicely and I can't complain. They are about 3" taller and much bushier than the last set of pics. I will take more pics this Thursday. I've still got a minor CA and FE deficiency in a couple of them, but overall they are looking sexy as hell.

Very nice setup dude. I enjoy the hempy style myself....definitely great growth response after they hit the res. It's really cool to observe a hempy in action over time...the reservoir makes the whole thing work like a super simple wick system which I did not understand at first. Ya learn somethin new everyday eh. Keep up the good work & i'll keep an eye out for updates.

So after 1 week of flowering, I have a total of 7 confirmed males, and 15 females. Unfortunately my one and only hindu kush and ALL FIVE AK48 turned out to be dudes! I'm left with 4 Northern Lights that are doing very well, 5 Cheese that are doing fairly well and 4 white rhino that are starting to look up. I'm going to veg my 2 sativa plants for a couple more weeks because they still haven't grown their tops back yet after I topped them. And I also decided to super crop them and people suggest you veg an additional 2-3 weeks when super cropping.

I'm kind of bummed out about all my AK being male. I was really looking forward to smoking some AK this winter. I've grown this strain before and it was one of my favs. Has anyone else ever gotten 5/5 males before? The other 5 in the pack better all be female! lol

I will post pics very soon. I'm tired now and going to bed, goodnight.

loving this journal, was thinking of following the same method for my first grow, was just wandering about feeding. do you feed them whenever you water them like with a nutrient solution. or one watering with just water and the next with nutrient solution. sorry if this dosn't make much sense. thanks

Thanks! I've been playing with the watering schedule a bit to see what they like. During veg I was on a feed/water only/feed/water+additive (plant tonic or superthrive) schedule. Now I am on a feed, water only, water+additive schedule. During veg I watered/fed every 3-4 days, now I am watering/feeding every 2-3 days. I wouldn't advise feeding every time you water with this method.

I will be taking pics tonight as soon as the lights come back on! Pic update tonight or tomorrow.

Hey THseaman...I have re read and caught up the past few weeks I have not been on your thread. As you know, I grew from seed in hempy and after week 2, it was explosive and lush throughout the entire grow and I had 2 different strains. After re reading this thread, the only difference I see was the nutes used and the size of the containers. You kept them in cups for a looooong time. You said 44oz but they sure looked slim in width but maybe were 44oz deep. That male you plucked had quite a few roots which might have slowed growth. My containers were a good 10" wide and just as deep. I started in that size and finished in that size. That might be one of the reasons why you experienced the slow growth.
I've got another "lifeless medium" grow going but this time in coco coir. No journal or pics yet, but its going very well just as the hempy did.
Looks like its all worked out now and I cant wait to see the new pics :)

Yeah Bone, I definitely think the plants like the larger buckets. Maybe there is something to be said for starting them in the container you plan on finishing them in. AZ Grow seems to think that starting in smaller containers and transplanting is okay. When I transplanted every plant was root bound. I should have at least transplanted about 2 weeks earlier. But they did start growing rapidly a couple days after transplant. I've been considering ways I could start in the larger buckets, but I just don't have space for the numbers I want to grow. I want to have 12-24 plants perpetually in grow and bloom simultaneously. I just don't have enough space for the young plants to veg in big buckets under fluorescents.

P.S. how's your AK taste? I'm jealous! I'm not going to get to smoke any homegrown AK for at least another 14 weeks, all 5 of mine were males this round!

An hour and a half until the lights come back on, tick tock tick tock....

Today is Day 8 of Flower. I currently have 4 Northern Lights, 5 Cheese and 4 White Rhino that are confirmed females. I Killed a total of 7 males. My Two Sativa sisters are hanging out in the veg room for a while longer since I super cropped and topped them late (experimenting with free seeds). I have taken 6 clones from each Sativa, as well as, 3 clones each from my strongest Cheese and NL. I'm not going to clone the Rhino, they have been like raising crack babies. BUT, they are actually starting to look pretty good finally! Lastly, I started germinating 7 White Widow (5 Nirvana, 2 bag seed that was actually really good weed) and they should be ready in a couple days or so. I will root them in Oasis cubes next to the clones before putting them into hempy buckets.

Okay, here are the new batch of pics I just took.

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention. I covered the top of my perlite w/1-1.5" of hydroton to combat algae growth. Fairly ingenious, wish it were my idea.
