My mom recently retired at 70. She'll see her 100th birthday. None of us will, that's for sure! So get your shit together and get retired. Life is too short to waste it slaving for the man.
On average a person dies one month earlier for every year they retire early. The trick is to love what you do, and everyday of work is a blessing.

I think that's the kind of statistic that covers up more than it illuminates.

I've seen lots of people die early, right after retirement. Most of them retired for health reasons. The rest died because they didn't find something else to keep busy and remain engaged with life.

My grandmother got more done most days in her retirement than most people I know working full time. She lived to be almost 105.

Old Navy Chiefs were known to drop dead not long after leaving the job. Going from being in charge, with all the stress and drama that goes with it, to sitting on the couch watching soap operas. The big thing is to have a good social structure and have something to do with your time.

Agreed on all counts.

If I had nothing better to do than watch soap operas I'd drink myself to death too.

Please, please, please make sure you understand the downside and pitfalls before you invest in any annuity product (Immediate, Deferred income, Fixed, Equity, Index, Variable) and do your due diligence. Talk with an independent Registered Investment Adviser (RIA) if you have questions. Most of the good ones will offer initial consultations at no charge.

Mamma had a little bit of change in annuities. Not the best way to do things, but better than some of the things they did with their money. {Daddy had a pretty high dollar term life policy that he outlived} Let me say that all insurance companies are not built the same. With some of them, we had our money within a few weeks of Mamma dying. Some it was over 6 months.

My wife and I did buy annuities before she was rich and famous. Two of her's are paying out now. Not sure what our thinking was when we set them up, but one is direct deposit and the other is a check. The check is only a couple of three hundred. More of a pain in the ass remembering to deposit it than it's worth.

Turned 71 in July. Just got back into smoking and growing after 30+ year layoff. I was a Humbolt grower back in the 80's and would love to hear from anybody that lives in the Briceland - Elk Ridge - Perry Meadow area.

IKR? I couldn't wait for the selection on the 3 channel, B&W set. Course we also played outside in the summer from dawn to dusk, the only electronic was maybe a portable AM radio, generally unsupervised in neighborhoods where EVERY one knew you and your folks. LOL, how many kids do that nowadays. How things have changed.

If you are using Medicare Part D (medications), you may want to check and see if your plan is increasing next year. Mine (I don't take any meds) last year was $19 per mth. This year was $24 mth, just got a notification that next year will be $59 mth (!)
