Hit the swamps

Thought i would start a thread about growing in swamps or standing water. Many growers will argue that you CAN'T grow quality product in these type of conditions for various reasons. I'm sure this topic has been debated here on riu many times, but i have yet to see any good videos backing up anyone's claims. So i will show a bunch of different techniques as we go. I must agree, there is a notable lack of swamp/bog related content in the outdoor growing thread currently, which is rather unfortunate because that is what I am most interested in doing this year. There is lots of stuff out there though, a quick google will give you some decent literature, only problem is its not on RIU :lol:

I like this thread, Where i live there is tons of this and i thought about burying my 5 gallon bucks halfway so i wont have to water. wonder if my plant will get mold or would that be a good idea

Yes, there is lot's of stuff out there you can Google. Some of those techniques ill be talking about here, but mostly i am going to talk about things i have learned myself over time, and also have been taught by seasoned veterans. Old timers that would never talk on computers or anyone for that matter. These guys take there secrets to the grave. I am lucky enough to have known and know a hand full of these ganja god's. My goal in this tread is to present things that people have never heard about or seen before. And hopefully people offer to add some of their own knowledge here so i can learn some new things as well.

Iv been subbed to getaway mountains new thread for a while now, and checked out a lot of his past work. He is an AMAZING grower with an incredible wealth of knowledge. I dint see him doing anything in swamps though. But i could have easily missed it. Looks like maybe partial tag alder/wooded/pine tree etc...If he reads this im sure he will straighten me out ;-)

. I have much respect for him, the only outdoor thread im subbed to on here,put it that way ha. But i have noticed that EVERYONE has there own idea of what a swamp is. A lot depending on where they live and what they are used to seeing. When i say swamp i mean you need waders or hip boots. A bog swamp, or standing water, marsh grass, cattails with little islands and patches of brush for cover. The thicker the brush the better. REAL nasty shit.

I had previously only subbed into getaway's threads as he seemed to be someone giving the real deal of info out. Now I have subbed into this and am real excited as to what is said here. I look forward to hearing how you grow in the super nasty stuff...but also interested in muck that you can barely walk on...but is not something you would typically want a plant living in.
So far I have read two methods that seem good. Swamp tubes...and my now favorite using landscape fabric to make fake smart pot kind of things with open bottoms. I am super excited to hear what people who have done this a lot with success have done.

Ill be covering all that soon bud. Nice thing about swamps is if done right you will have full sun from the second it cracks the horizon till it sets...but still have them hidden enough from aerial surveillance or anyone for that matter. So with your mold concern,you want that morning sun to blast your ladies first thing to dry um off. Or did you mean root rot?

Sure. A lot of people do. Smart pots, buckets, totes ect. Some people prefer that over digging. And you can move them around. Advantages and disadvantages like with anything. With his operation he grows monsters. He's not just starting them at home and taking out treys of little babies and transplanting in the ground. He grows them at home for months, then come spring he carries them out one by one. Every time i read more about his work, i gain more respect for him. He works his ass off and his finished product shows it.

You can set a bucket down anywhere, no big deal. Where are you from? Colorado? A big hurdle as far as debating with people about swamp grows, is the type of swamp we are imagining. The type of swamp im talking about doesn't have any real dry land. It's flooded year round. Even the tiny patches that have some brush growing aren't dry. Stand there for a minute and the water is nearing your knees. The conditions alone in the swamps are night and day compared to high land. Like a different world. Temperature, humidity, insects, flooding to name just a few. Just to get to your grow can be an adventure. My own main personal reason to be deep in a swamp is security. Not because i think i wont have to water, or as often. Anywhere you plant in the woods,fields ect.. you are gambling with the fact anyone can walk up on it for a variety of reasons. Nobody is going to push a half mile through a watery hell for any reason. Have you ever seen anyone pull off a grow in waste deep water? Not just succeed, but end up with big beautiful flame ass buds? Just not letting your plant die in those conditions where nothing should be growing at all is a big deal imo. I guess if you lived in a area like im describing, you could relate. As i get going on this thread, you will see where im going with all this. And no you aren't coming across wrong..ask me anything!

Ok I see. No, I'm from Cali. I just thought from the thread title one is growing directly in the water which seems impossible in stagnant water was the big deal. If just simply putting buckets above water level not such a big deal . I understand the difficulty of transversing the swamps . one can grow almost anywhere if the mindset is there. In trees, In a flowing creek. outdoor in the winter etc. I am waiting though to see your magic.

So what exactly is your question? Are you saying it's your opinion that growing in stagnant water is impossible? Or that a person can grow anywhere? What i am talking about is not only possible but is done all the time. All that i am doing really is talking about the different techniques i have learned myself and also from some truly incredible growers. And not just methods but a lot of other things a person can run into while attempting THIS type of growing. Trying to show people some new things they haven't seen before. I am also going to be discussing different ways of watering and feeding with "collars" including my own design. Now that is truly magic. Wish i would have thought of it 20 years ago.

Yea, that's basically what im saying . If you put a bucket above high water weather it's a 10 mile hike in the forest or a 50 mile wade in the swamp you achieve the same results. Kinda not hard to see ? And you really haven't talked about or shown anything except a viedo with poor music and made me motion sick that was way to fing long. IMO. so lets get on with the show all ready ?

Ya im working on it. I'm multitasking a bit, and jumping back here to answer questions. You see i just started this tread im assuming? I tossed out one video for a quick example of raised bed's. I didn't pick the shitty music and i wasn't the camera man so take it up with him or mute it or just fuck off and don't watch it. Better yet, why don't stay the fuck off my thread. this is about up to my balls and i have to where waders till mid june or july before i can even think of looking for a dry spot to put them lol... it is very thick and a real swamp (huge) the edges are all water but if ya brave the bugs and are stubbon enough ya can find some pieces of heaven in the middle . i got some pics in files of 15 ft plants in barrells with the bottoms cut out and wire mess across the bottoma and then 2 ft of crushed rocks first then screen with small mesh and then promix on top for the plant to be rooted in . the promix is above the water level and doesn't soak up water like a sponge . i have to carry a 8 ft ladder to reach the tops of the plants and a sheet of plywood to keep the ladder from sinking. i got alot of real swamp growing pics i'll have to look them up 15 + years of grow files but i know which year so it won't take me too long lol..... i got some tricks up my old ass sleave and am always ready to hear about something new from old school growers.
