Horizontal and vertical lighting

Anyone ever tried runing both light setups together?

Talking about something like this.

___
| |
| |

__ = 400w hps

|
| = 600w hps

So a total of 1600w hps over an area of 7x7 foot. Mainly focussed on one big plant (least 3ft cubbed).

Anyone care to speculate?

You would have to veg the plant for like 6 months for it to be worth running the setup on one plant.

It would be a waste of power.

I would do like 6 plants in that and I would veg them for like 3 months. Also you would want higher wattage on top because you have the most horizontal of the room for canopy growth and the side lights would just supplement under growth.

in smaller grows it's pretty inefficient to do it with HID lighting. you could hang some vertical CFL's but if i were you i would make the veg bulbs to give you a more balanced spectrum. hanging a few 45w CFL's could definitely help.

Do a 1000w hps per 7x7. Hang it in the middle of the space. Keep 12-18inchs away from plants. cooltube and all. Now put milk crates around edges of the tent. You do that to raise the back row higher than the front row.
So 42 sqaure feet instead of 16. Plus plants arent crowded.

i don't know man. i rock 1000w hortilux bulbs inside xxxl hoods and it doesn't matter what height you keep the light or what you do to the plants on the outside...you aren't getting a 7x7 pattern out of them. especially at 12-18 inches. more like 5x5 at 24" max.

Cheers for getting back guys , it isnt soley for one plant , there would be 6 in total , just the one in the middle recieves so much light it becomes the centre piece. Aka big mama :D

Yeah the biggest problem i can see is the veg , however touch wood be roughly looking at 2-3 month veg(dwc seteup) under atleast 600 hps , before placed into flower.

if you can just rotate your plants around the light source. move larger plants to the outside and rotate all plants to get even light disbursment.
