How Come So Many Bernie Bros Are Women and People of Color?

"Despite data to the contrary, the media continues to distort Sanders' politics and the diversity of his supporters

A recent CNN poll shows that among potential Democratic candidates in Iowa caucuses Senator Bernie Sanders has the highest approval rating from people of color. And the diversity of the Sanders-inspired left was on display at the Sanders Institute Gathering in Burlington Vermont earlier this month, which I covered my podcast, The Katie Halper Show.

But empirical evidence has not stopped much of the corporate press—including many "liberal" or "progressive" outlets and commentators—from condemning the senator as having "a race problem."
Over the past week we saw Jonathan Martin of the New York Times (who happens to be white) claim that Sanders "has done little to broaden his political circle and has struggled to expand his appeal beyond his base of primarily white supporters." Meanwhile, Clara Jeffery, the editor-in-chief of Mother Jones (also white), recently presented not only Sanders' supporters but the left movement in general as white. Linking to a written exchange between two Splinter journalists about Sanders, she tweeted, "In which white lefties have a debate that somehow does not discuss the fact that Bernie has no real purchase among the POC base of the Democratic party. And that problem has not improved for him, if anything it seems larger…""

WTF is people of color ? Are white people transparent or ghost or something ?

Dear white people,
When I was born I was black, when I grew up I was black, when I'm sick I'm black, when I go out in the sun I'm black, when I'm cold I'll be black, and when I die I'll be black. But you, when you where born you were pink, when you grew up you were white, when you go out in the sun you turn red, when you're cold you turn blue, and when you die you'll turn purple/black. And you have the nerve to call me colored?

Sanders' highest support numbers come from people of color and women

The manufactured "White male's only support Sanders" narrative espoused by a few moderate Democrats here because they can't argue against his policy positions is a complete fairy tale

That's not really what anyone said. The charge, of which Bernard is absolutely guilty, is that his campaign didn't do well in reaching beyond the white male demographic. If a miracle occurs and he is ever in a position where he has the best chance of beating the regressive shitstains, many people will bite the bullet and support him. He's not great but he is not terrible when compared with other options.

2016 Democratic primary map: The yellow states are where most of the people of color are, the green states are the ones Bernie won (though some of the caucus states like Wa he received way fewer actual votes)

The charge for 2020 is that Sanders doesn't do well in reaching beyond the white male demographic when every poll shows the complete opposite. Sanders polls highest among people of color and women. So what will you cling to when Sanders emerges as the Democratic favorite this time around?

Age. It will be all you have left, at least until Biden capitulates. Putting all your eggs in Biden's basket was smart, you gave away your strongest argument. Keep paying those Dem. strategists ;)

He should have run as independent instead of trying to hyjack a party to which he claims adamantly that he is not partisan.
The American political system requires candidates run on a two party platform if they hope to be successful. Put this bullshit establishment talking point to rest. It's a waste of time.
Why would the DNC nominate an outsider to represent them?
They wouldn't, because they're a corrupt organization designed to ensure the establishment candidate wins, which is why they, at the behest of Tom Perez as Chair, have been working tirelessly since the 2016 Democratic primary to ensure their establishment pick gets the most media coverage and actual progressive frontrunners don't.

Nobody supports Kamala Harris, she has less name recognition than Sanders did before he announced in 2015. Same with Booker and Gillibrand. O'Rourke couldn't even beat one of the most unpopular Senators in the country, why would anyone come out to vote for him for president?

The only person people are excited to come out to vote for is Bernie Sanders. He's popular among minorities, women, and according to moderate Democrats and conservatives, he's a shoe in with white guys. Nobody in congress is as popular as Bernie Sanders. He's got name recognition, and all demographics trust what he says. The only people that don't want him to run are establishment Democrats entrenched in congress, and they're doing everything they can to delegitimize the impact he's made across the country on issues like health care, criminal justice reform, and the minimum wage.

Ya'll remember when the Atlanta Falcons had completely dominated the New England Patriots in the first half of the Superbowl and then lost it?

OK then.

Let him run and we'll see what happens. I'm not voting for him in the primary. Bernie is OK but insufficient. I want better.

Every part of this is your nonsense opinion and speculation. This is why bernouts are regularly compared to paulbots. He wasn't cheated out of anything. Your opinion about how he might be received by voters in 2020 requires 2020 and it isn't even 2019 yet.

Every part of this is your nonsense opinion and speculation.
Then show your work

You said "every part", so explain why you disagree with the fact that candidates in America need to run on one side of the two party system in order to hope to be successful in winning their elections. That third party candidates statistically can't win, which is why you levy this charge against Sanders in the first place, because you know he's a threat

He wasn't cheated out of anything.
Then why did Donna Brazile pen an article in Politico entitled "Hillary Clinton's secret takeover of the DNC"?

Seems pretty self explanatory. So do you hold Politico at fault for the title, Brazile at fault for the expose, the readers at fault for buying it, what?

Your opinion about how he might be received by voters in 2020 requires 2020 and it isn't even 2019 yet.
Not sure I've ever come across anything that's fallen flatter than that
