How do you make yout clones?

I use the bottom 3 inches of clear plastic water bottles so I can see the roots. I dip my cuttings in Root Tone and place in 24/0 250 watt CFL. Should I change the water every now and then. Do humidity domes help. I was thinking of using the clear plastic cake covers you get in the store when you buy a pie or cake. Does spraying the follage help?
+ reps for good info.

I don't think "24/0 250 watt CFL" is the recommended medium for cloning. but it is good for lighting.

I take cuttings, and place them in netpots and allow the bottom 1/4 inch of soil to rest in a pool of PH'd water that i change every day until roots show. I have had success cloning in hydroton with this method as well as soil.

why i put my clones in a clear cup and under 800wtt mh to root.

Plants in seedling and clone stage require about 400-500 lumens per square foot. - u can clone or veg under as many watts as u want, point is they cant use that many lumens yet, they are not efficiently absorbing the 800watts of eneregy ur using.

so that is why his clones or cuttings can veg under 250watt CFLs for a few weeks. Would he want to veg for 2 months and flower under that? no. but that was not the topic.

and like i just said why not i do all the time with great success. there is no right way or wrong way. they are going to root or not root. all ways work and sum work faster then other methiods, but one thing for sure is you are wrong in what your saying about to much light.its the heat that comes along with that much light that kills. so all you really have to do is controle your heat..

I agree with mygirls. When I had space in my veg area I would put my clones in there under a 600W MH and I would get roots in 5 days. I have since switched to a 80W florescent and now takes 7-8 days. Maybe the extra light kick starts them, who knows.

7-8 days? That's incredible. It takes me a month to see roots.

For the longest time I couldnt clone worth a damn, I tried everything including cloning machines and I still sucked at it. I then started using rapid rooters in a dome with a heat mat and have not looked back.

My first attempt at clones I simply cut 4 lil clones off the plants and washed off the stem, made a 45 degree cut and stuck em in some fox farms light warrior soil in a party cup. Took 3 weeks to get roots and 3 of the 4 survived.

Next attempt I actually used root gel and did the same thing other than that and I got roots in about 10 days. and all of them survived.

I did find it key to keep the temps up in the veg box for the clones, and I did use a humidity dome.

All in all, I was really surprised that cloning was as easy as it actually is.

So cloning in water is not a good way to get roots? You guys like to go straight to soil or peat plugs?

soil / rock wool / peat plugs - are all kind of a no brainer. Doing them in water is very doable. look up some hydro cloning videos on youtube.

If you feel like you have a fairly sterile environment, try abrasing the stem where it will sit in medium, and then place in a clonining gel or powder.

Steps I take:

Take cutting and place in cup of PH'd water

Look at the cutting and determin if trimming is needed.

trim larger fan leaves (if possible while still in the water) if need'd

Use serated kitchen knife to "break" the skin where my cloning gel will come in contact

Place in gel

Place in prepared medium

You wont always get a winner, but the best thing u can do is keep it waterd, if u have low humdidity (less than 60%) use a dome and spray it (not the plants) often, to keep the humidity up. and it always helps to take healthy clones to start with.
