LOL I got four Strawberry Diesel plants ready for harvest. One of them I am tempted to rename. I hope any ladies on the forum will pardon me, but I would call this one Wet Pussy lol.. with a hint of nice perfume

Thank you for making me feel so welcome! smoke cat grass? ewwww! I am a woman (old as hell too LOL) but wasn't offended at all tet1953. I will be posting some pictures of my "babies". I just put them in 1gal pots today. They were all fairly root bound & was told by a friend that it was time. Now they look so tiny lol. I'm using the LST (Less Stress Training) on most of them. So far, I'm really impressed with the technique...we'll see...Anyways, Take care everyone. Looking forward to to learning with ya!

Bummer, i've been looking for Rezdog's Strawberry Diesel which is Sour Diesel clone x Strawberry Fields (apparently a local Vermont strain a la MOB). You know if that is Soma's NYCD x KK Strawberry Cough?

Never heard of it myself. Sure do seem to be a lot of "Maine" strains lol. I wonder if it's like that in other states.

Jerry Berry is said to be a strain that originated in Vermont and may play a part in the MOB genetic makeup, depending on which origin story you are inclined to believe. It seems pretty common in the NH-Vermont-Mass area in the fall. I've picked some up at either a Phish or Dead-related show in the last 10 years or so. Remember the name, nothing about the strain.

I am finally getting back to the old me .... getting up at 3am, having a coffee, and a hit now and then to take some edge of the chronic pain. So being a newbie and all, I am like getting into this genetics stuff quite a bit. I am glad that there are some of you that are into this side of the coin, for I am gaining more knowledge about what I need to take care of me and my meds. So thanks a lot for sharing !!
I also take it, that there are some strains that are more available on the East Coast, than the West, and also that some derived here in Maine, or at least New England. "Jerry" Berry I take it, would more than likely be found at a Dead or Phish concert. (And all this time back in the 70's I just thought it was "Weed".) I need to ask a dumb question, but I remember having just a "few" names back then.... Primarily Acapulco Gold, Mexican Red, Hawaii Mawie (sp?) etc. I know I was a pup, and doing a lot more than weed at the time, but did we have as many strains back then? I know that I am having a sort of difficult time honing in on what works best for me, but through your posts, I am slowly narrowing the field. So Thanks !!

yep. north east kingdom of vt.. as i have heard.. i have 10 jerry berry x OG KUSH cross seeds in my kitchen cubbard, I gt from a hippie at a bluegrass fest i went to.. lol sat around the fire with him and his family and ended up talking about our own grows and he gifted me these seeds as long as i'd gift him an mob clone at next years bluegrass show.. lol I love hippies

The old school weed names - Panama Red, Punta Roja Gold, Thai Stick, etc. are referred to as Landrace strains in the "educated" cannabis circles today. These genetics are very desirable to breeders as today's commercial cannabis is generally a mish-mash of various strains (and occasionally other things). Back in the day when i was working for Mexicans i remember opening up bales and finding perfectly shaped indica buds on one side and spear shaped sativa buds on the other side of the bale. Mexican cartels are very into keeping their product as competitive as possible, so they have introduced high-end breeder genetics into their landrace strains, with the result of polluting the gene pool.
Landrace strains are very much in demand by breeders of all stripes, from amateurs breeders to hobbyists to commercial seed banks. If anyone has any old school bagseed from the 70's & 80's sitting around in any condition i'd be interested in talking to you about it.

30 to 40 year old bagseed? I gotta ask Brookies, what's the oldest seed you've germinated. I hear they are viable for 5 or 6 years and that's about it, but I've never tried anything older than 2

My understanding is that the length of viability depends on care of the seed (reducing air flow and stabilizing temps being most important). Having said that, anthropologists recently found a burial site that was approximately 10k years old where the deceased was buried with cannabis seed. The anthropologists attempted to germinate those seeds. If they are gonna try 10k year old seeds i'm all over the 30 year old seeds!
Seriously though, I'm involved in another site where there are a couple active landrace programs happening with seeds that are 30+ years, which is where any seeds i acquired would end up. The oldest i've germed would be 5-6 years old. Had a very low rate but i got some to go.

Thanks for the info on Jerry Berry MB! I guess I should have known it was a 'festival' strain given it had Jerry in it. Wow.
I beleive your correct about the conditions affecting viability MB. The health of the seed originally, how it dried and then it's care/conditions from there forward. I have no doubt you could germ something 50-100 years old or more.. 10,000, eh. Maybe.
I've heard some breeders down play landraces. Out of the couple articles I read I don't remember a real explation, I guess they are too lazy to deal with real genetics.

I would imagine that with the proper conditions, anything can be stored for some time. Just look at what those scientists are doing to preserve all of the seeds up in the Tundra. I wonder if they have any MJ seeds as well ????

Mmmmm Thai Stick, that is the very first weed I ever smoked! What a treat, I had it around for 3 years steadily. Oh to have it again! The second weed I ever smoked was from Vietnam. A good friend brought a couple joints home with him, shoved everything from Nam in a cubby hole. I became his confidante in time & went to this long abandoned cubby hole &he found the joints in an old steel cigarette pack holder. It was dry as dust & he put it in a bowl. Nvere in my life have I been that high, and not really sure I'd like to try it again lol

Well, landraces are definitely a crapshoot. One of the hottest strains on the canna-scene is a landrace called Alien Technologies and allegedly came back to the State's via the military, similarly to Cerberus' story about the origins of MOB. I have descendent genetics of this in the form of something called CosmicDawg which was bred by my buddy GorrillaGrower. He gifted me a couple to run in my first medical grow and think it was the best strain i've run so far.
OTOH, GG also gifted me a plant from Pakistani landrace seeds that ended up with nice bud shape and some lavender hues but definitely lacked potency. It must have had a good amount of CBD as it provided surprising relief for my knee pain, but i wasn't impressed enough overall to run the seeds i made with pollen from a Deadhead OG F2 yet.
