How much venting needed for 3 600 W hps lights?

So I'm about to set up a flowering room with 3 600 W hps lights and need to know how much venting I need to keep it cool and the air flowing. What size duct is appropriate?

The room is approximately 12 x 10, (I haven't measured yet). I will be venting into the bathroom after first passing through the mother/clone closet which is 6.5' x 8'. In the bathroom I plan to ozonate sporadically on a timer. I will then vent out of the bathroom 'fart fan' vent which is a 6 inch diamater tube. Is this wide enough? How many fans do I need to keep things cool?

you wanna figure out the cubic feet of your grow rooms and get a exhaust fan that will exchange the air at least every 3 min preferably 1 min

won't that be pretty noisy through 6" diamater? would a twelve inch vent hose be better?

well for a bigger room it will be alot of venting i think most ppl say every 5 min do a air exchange but i always try to do a lil better so it may be noisy im not sure what size fan you need whats the cubic feet of the room i am sure its not gonna be stealth but thairs no substitute for good exhaust , it keeps your plants breathin and helps keep it cool in thair you may need to do 2 smaller fans but than thats 2 times as much noise

You would want use at least an 8" in-line fan with 8"ducting to air cool just the lights.

This is not a good plan for a room that size. When you are working with larger areas, not just closets, you need to think 'air handling sytem' not a vent. The longer the duct work the bigger the fan needed. I wouldn't use less than a 500cfm for that room. Instead of an ozone generator in the bathroom consider a carbon filter attached to an 8" or 10" duct and figure out how to get it to the out side. If you put all of that moist warm air if the bathroom you will not like the results.

In the bathroom I plan to ozonate sporadically on a timer. I will then vent out of the bathroom 'fart fan' vent which is a 6 inch diamater tube. Is this wide enough? How many fans do I need to keep things cool?

You will want two to move air through the lights and two to power your air handling system. You would be wise to get 2 wall mounted oscillating fans too keep the air circulated around the plants as well. Remember bigger is better. As an example, an 8" duct will allow for four times the air movement of a 4" duct. When I ran mine I fouind out that that 8" line fits right into the bottom of a 'roof hat', the one for venting the attic. Couple of self tapping screws thru the side and now it blows out at the top of the roof. Not many can smell it up there. VV

What if I use 250w hps lights for flowering? I was thinking that I could get better coverage this way, and don't have to buy as many lights since I already own 3 switchable 250's. Would it be crazy to use 9 250w to flower in the room? It ends up using less power then the 4 600's.

Will the heat be way worse like this? The 250's have the ballast built in to the hood so I'm worried about heat.

Wow, it must be good weed. Had to read the whole thread twice. What is it your are trying to accomplish here. Let me throw this at ya for a minute. If I had a 12' by 10' room I was trying to set up for a flowering room, I would start with 3- 4' by4' tables. I would place them in the room so it would be easy to add a fourth table when I wanted to. I would want to use the lights that would give me the most usable light, the most lumens, in the right spectrum. 3-600 watt lights would cover them.
If venting them is a problem why not try something different. Here we go, deja vue all over again. Don't produce the heat in the first place. Buy 3- 4' 8 tube T-5 lights. Mix the bulbs, 1/2 red 1/2 blue. Put those puppies right over the top of you plants, like within a few inches. Problem solved.
That doesn't change the fact that you are going to need to replace the air in the room with 'fresh' air. It just means heat won't be as much of an issue.

I'm actually growing in organic soil. I've always done it like this and haven't had the chance to try a hydro setup. After I get a few successful cycles I'm definitely trying it. Venting isn't a problem, and I want to use hps, they are the most effective lights I've seen, and I already have a bunch of them. I should probably mention that I'm vegging in 4x4" pots and flowering in 8x8" pots. I can fit around 200 plants in the flowering room this way and still have room to walk around the plants.
