How much will 2 plants SMELL?

Lol, would you believe that NL is actually considered a "low-odour" strain? Try growing a plant with AK genetics in it...it's not so much a smell as a thick musk!

OP Id advise just spending the money to get a proper inline fan with separate carbon filter. You could spend $300+ trying half ass remedies, but I'd you get a fan and filter separate joined with ducting if anything fails you just have to replace it, not the whole system.

It's really not worth the risk, say a single wiff got out and someone smelt it? Up shit-creek with no paddle. And Iv found carbon filters work 100% if the ducting joins are airtight, no weed smell AT ALL.

Hope this helps.
HEHE....I have hear that from others about NL and low odor, but mine stanky stank.....I have grown many different strains of meds but they all have a distinct smell to them when you harvest and dry watch out.....definitely need a filter for that.

I actually have a DeLonghi air purifier (this one: http://www.purifierideas.com/defrairpu.html). Has an ionizer switch too. But from what I'm picking up on these boards, this won't be enough. Supposedly works for up to 200 square feet, so will it work for a closet with a few plants in bud?

I'm thinking of ordering this carbon filter (http://www.amazon.com/Hydropronic-In...1316977&sr=8-1), but I'm a little hesitant because reviews say it's kinda loud.
One of the best ways to reduce odor problems is to keep your environment as close to optimum as possible. If the temperature and humidity are spot on, the odor will be less intense. Just like humans, when these plants are too hot and too humid, they stink! For a small closet grow, you should install an exhaust fan on your box or case (or in the closet door if you must). Then you can cover that small fan with a carbon filter from Walmart made for a cat litter box.

Honestly, probably nothing inexpensive and home rigged is going to eliminate all of the smell. Around here, we burn a lot of incense... :peace:

I posted a similar question in a thread last night. I have 7 plants going right now. They're about a month old and still in veg, but the smell is getting noticeable. Today I went to Wal-mart and got one of those glade automatic air freshener thingies and it has worked wonders so far. I got the spruce scented one and have it set to spray every 15 minutes. Total cost was about $10. With 2 plants you shouldn't need TO much to get rid of the odor. You can also build your own carbon filter. Check out the DIY section. There are a few good how tos in there.

Some have said certain breeds smell like other things rather than straight weed.
To emphasize what PapaSmoke is saying, yes certain strains have different smells to them...like candy, and pine, but imagine if you will that you've taken a mighty dump after a big ol burrito. That's gonna smell a might different than if you've been eating salad for a week... but it still smells like shit. :-) And weed smells like weed. Maybe it's fruity weed or fuely weed, or chocolate weed, it's still weed.

You know, you could grow them straight into flower from seed. It won't make any difference in whether or not they smell or even how much, but it will get you your weed quicker. You can actually sprout them from seed with your lights set at 12/12 for the entire grow. Do you have any pictures of your set up? What lights are you using?

I'll have 3 plants if I'm lucky (based on my fledglings now). They're bag seed, so I have no idea of the strain. I have no way to vent my closet for a carbon scrubber to blow the air out.

I did however discover that my DeLonghi Air Purifier (http://www.air-purifier-power.com/delonghi-air-purifier.html) has a carbon filter as well as a HEPA quality regular filter. It also has an ionizer, but I probably won't use the ionizer.

I'm hoping that with a few cans of odor absorbing gel, the DeLonghi in the closet will work, esp. if it's constantly on and set right in the closet.

I have an extra DeLonghi too, which I can run in the house, plus maybe I'll put a few cans of odor absorbing gel around the house.

Plus -- maybe I'll flower and harvest before the plants are monsters (if I'm lucky enough to get'em that far).

My biggest problem is that the closet is right next to the front door of my place, so anyone standing outside the door might get a whiff unless I'm careful. And any visitors (maintenance guys, etc.) will walk right past my babies, so the odor has to be completely covered.

I tell ya, the more I learn, the more I see why most people don't grow their own. But I really don't like drug dealers (and I really like weed), so I guess I'll stick with growing if I can. :weed:
Even three small 1 1/2 foot tall plants will stink like you can't imagine. Would you not consider a small grow tent maybe? They do 60cm x 60cm x 120cm tents which are pretty small, but with a carbon filter/fan combo it'll be totally smell-less and if you need to you can just move it somewhere.

When my landlord or any other "visitors" would go to my old place I'd pack the tent up, put it away and put my plants in my car. Worked wonders, but only when people I'd be really paranoid about would show up.

I take it you've never flowered before bro? Forget thinking they smell now dude, no air freshener is gonna hide 7 plants flowering. Not a chance in hell, I'm actually a little worried for you to be honest cos it still surprises me sometimes quite how strong it can be when the tent door is open.

LOL. I know the air freshener won't work when they start to bud. It's just a cheap fix while they're in veg. I doubt all 7 of them are gonna be girls either. They weren't feminized seeds. The air freshener is just to tide me over until I can get or build a scrubber. I'm also planning on sealing up my closet with a zip door or panda film soon too. That should help some.

How would I get rid of the smell if I am leaving my grow tent open due to over heating? I have the tent in a room in my house and the flaps are basically open 100% of the time when the lights are on. Suggestions?

If you got an extractor and carbon filter it'd cool your tent and get rid of the smell.

There is no way. About the only way to "get rid" of the smell is to have it in a contained area with some sort of filter filtering the air that is in your tent. :( Is your tent in a closet or something or out in the open in the room?

Right now it's in my gaming room. I had to small fans (one exhaust one intake) but they only got the temp down to 97 degrees. Now it's around 84/86. I've been reading the solution is nice, solid fans, not the 20$ varieties that I bought. But for the next 4 to 6 weeks or so, this is all I can do.

Man, that's a tough one. With it being in an open room it's gonna be tought to control the odor. What kind of lighting are you using?

two plants are going to smell a shitload. unless you have a two storied house, people walking in will smell. if they are like 4 footers, the neighbors might get whiffs every once in a while.

thanks for the advice ... guess I will have to delve pretty deep into this one. Luckily I have a few more weeks before I need to start worrying about the smell

Good luck brother! Take a look around at the air purification section of that site. There are a lot of options.

Good info! I'm living in a 2-story townhouse with neighbors also planning on doing a closet grow of 2-3 Northern Lights plants. I'll be using a 3W 200W LED light from Diamond. My closet is on the 2nd floor and has a small attic-like compartment in the ceiling. Do you guys think there's a way I can use that to get rid of the smell if I have a carbon filter and inline fan?

Ive got a very small grow, 1 auto, in my closet. I can mask the odour very easily by leaving the window open (im on the 11th floor), odour neutralising gel which works a little bit and a plug in oil release air freshner which masks the smell wonderfully, so i just plug that in when I have people over and no one has noticed.
