How to avoid the smell while the tent is open? (watering, trimming etc). Classic and silly ideas...

Hey, first time grower, just preparing for future and trying not to annoy my roommates :)

Basically my problem is this - smell during watering, because I have to take the plants out... I have a 3x3x6 tent and 3 plants in my bedroom. The air is eytracted through a carbon filter to the chimney, so when tent is closed, smell doesnt leak at all.

I have roomates( who are not against growing, yet are not fans of the smell), so I would appreciate any advice on how to contain the smell only to my room?

What other solutions are there, if I dont want to take the plants outside the tent in late flowering ???

1) I am not planning a dwc system. Tent is in my bedroom, 6 feet from my bed, I think a dwc would be too loud. Currently AC infinity s6 runs like a gaming pc - quiet hum. And inside tent I have 4 quiet pc fans for circulation
2) Automated watering systems?
3) A tent with a transparent window and using a pressure pump with hose? This way I could look through the "window", open up a LITTLE bit of tent zipper, just enoughfor my hand and hose to fit and water that way? Due to small opening, the smell wouldnt escape too much. Also- I would put pots on a circle sized plastic with wheels under them, so I can just rotate the whole canopy and water from one position.

4) Ozone gnerator - if powerful enough, could I take the plants outside and it would mask most of the smell?
5) Silly one - attaching ANOTHER tent to my grow tent, so I have to enter like a decontamination chamber and seal it up. This where I would take out my plants and water them - in the second tent (sealed)
6) Even sillier one - buying a 5x5 tent , but using only 3x3 space for growing. I would have enough space to climb in and seal myself in lol :D

Any ideas? I understand that ONA gels are not a perfect solution...

Thank you!! Any input is appreciated.

I've been asking this question too, one of the best ideas I've seen so far is a seperate inline fan + filter sitting outside in your room. Perhaps near your bedroom door. It kinda turns your whole room into a carbon filtered enviroment & hopefully keeps the stank from exiting to the rest of house.

P.S. I love your idea of creating a biohazard level safety entrance tent, on front of your tent. If u got the space & ability... do it!

Get an oversized inline fan and carbon filter, crank that puppy up to "11" when you open the flaps.

Have a fan in the lung room blasting air into the open flaps of the tent, in addition to the oversized inline fan & filter because this alone doesn't work.

Oh, and of course, grow low-odor strains. Doesn't mean they won't be dank----in fact most still reek when you touch them/in cure, but throughout the grow they're surprisingly stealthy.

Ha, nice idea.
I was thinking of a big fan with its backside againstthe door, blowing air in the direction of open window.
But maybe blowing the air back in the tent (with my plants right at the entrance, where the AAC infinity is waiting for that dank smell on speed 10 is even better.

Why do you need to remove the plants from the tent to water them?

A hose on watering can should be able to reach anywhere in a 3x3

If you do need to take them out, opening a window with a fan blowing out will create enough negative pressure to prevent any air from leaving the room.

It would be like tentception.

@PopAndSonGrows posted an interesting idea, but your solution also sounds really efficient..... decisions, decisions.
Atleast there are several solutions and some kind of combination might be the best.

You are probbaly right. 3x3 is a bit tight to move the plants around but 4x4 would do. I just read from other experiences that , when the tnt is open, negative pressure is lost and if you have several plants, the smell still is quite strong and leaks in other rooms.

Maybe solution is a combination of ideas.
1) AC ifinity speed 10
2) Maybe some ONA gel.
3) A fan blowing in the direction of tent, pushing the dank smell into the hands of AC infinity sucking power
4) Or a Fan facing open window - dunno which is more efficient - 3rd or 4th option
5) If I will still get complaints than Ill add an ozone generator as well.
6) @DrDukePHD also had a nice idea of a separate inline fan + carbon filter.

Thanks guys - at least now I have options, Will probably try out the chapest ones first

I've got a 5" fan and filter that's portable I just sit it in the room the tents in, also when the tent open I keep the extraction fan running so most of the smell goes out and the other filter mops up anything else.

A can of ozium should be able to handle it in a closed bedroom for the time it takes to water a 3x3 imo. Surely they must be able to understand an occasional wiff if they are cool with the grow in the first place.
Oh yeah, they are very understanding,
But we all work from home, so they are almost always home when I water and they`re the best roomates one can have (WOULD be best, if thy smoked or liked the aroma lol). So I am willing to go an extra mile it is really only a question of a hundred +dollars which I luckily have and amwilling to invest)

Once everything is set up, it wont take any etxtra time to ensure odorless grow.

Thanks fellas.
I honestly think we mentioned all of the possible solutions between all of us.
Some of your ideas are to be much better then my tent within tent porn:D

I just thought this could be a cool comedy scene. Roomates hear "watering sequence initated" from a speaker. Then a freaking "shield" (English is not my native language) lowers in front of my door, many fans turn on and I crawl into my "tent in a tent contraption" and start watering while screaming "Is this good enough for you"??

You could always go the drip and remote reservoir if it’s critical but you cant avoid inspections so ….
I thought of it too, but dunno why other solutions I like better. But I am not experienced, maybe will have to try that some day as well

You can just seal the gaps around your bedroom door with weather stripping and get an oversized carbon filter and you should be good. Couple spritzes of febreeze or run an essential oil diffuser and you should be fine.

Nice - weather stripping. Do it once, no effort later. One mor option on the list, thanks!

Open window and box fan in the open window. You can test by placing a piece of paper in front of the door, should flap in the breeze

I have my little 2.5 x 2.5 x 5 ft drying tent in the closet of the flower room. If I think I'm making it funky I'll run my other tents filter and fan. Basicly a 2nd filter filtering the air in the room after the tent blows it out. Nothing makes it out of that room. Also could experiment with negative pressure. Make sure that room draws in and dosent expell into the house, simple ac on usually accomplishes this
