How to count weeks of flower?

Hey RIU. Its f4l here with another question. So ive read that when groing indoors and you flipp from an 18/6 light schedule to 12/12 light schedule for flower, you wait a week and then count down the weeks it takes for the buds to fully mature. Is this true? Any info would be greatly appreciated as this would change how far along i am.
Also if any one has any info on what is wrong with my plant leaves , check out my other post to lend some advice. Thanks in advance.

It takes about a week for plants to recognize the photo period change and adjust hormones to produce flowers.

Some people count from the day they flip and other start counting a week or so later when they see pistils starting to grow en masse, which takes about a week if the plant is mature.

Breeders usually count from when they see pistils.

Ok great thanks for all the replies. So from day of flipp im in 5th week and if i waited a week, im only at 4 weeks. Guess all just keeo an eye on them onve 9 weks hits for my girls from day of flipo and then i can judge if i need to wait aboyt a week. Thank you

I’m starting to believe it from flip... everywhere I read say by the time you start seeing pistils you’ll be in week 2...
I have an Acapulco Gold plant that has done this... and looks to be on time..

I also put my Rosetta Stone XX into flower... by week 2 it had to pistils everywhere So its week 2..

From my understanding it’s from the very first pistol you see... they don’t have to be everywhere... just 1 seen AFTER FLIPPING... JUST 1 white hair AFTER Flipped.. and your in flower...this has worked for me the last 3 grows...

I’ve noticed shortly after changing the light schedule the plant is stretching... therefore it’s in flower.. so I go by flip and at the end if its not ready.. be patient..

I used to think to start counting when you flip, but I'm finding with more experience, it's closer to stated finish time if you start counting at first pistils. Usually around two weeks after flip I start counting.

I run LEDs, so I count from the moment I see the first pistols.

I used to count from the day I put them in, but my plants would never finished within the breeders quoted time, I would always have to go an extra week to finish.

Now I finish right on the dot, within the breeders quoted time

yeah, either way you do it.. at some point I’ve found you need to check the trichomes... I’ve learned to wait on the swell and receding hairs...

Thanks guys. All keep track now
Next time check for the dates for the full moon in the month you want to chop. Count backwards the number of weeks claimed for flower and flip to flower then. Not weird but very old ways of farming. Plant on the new moon. Harvest on the full. Yes, I personally do this.

I'm glad to see some good answers in here. I've been trying to help people understand this exact topic for years.

Flowers begins when the plant starts to form flowers, its really really simple.

It takes time for plants to "transition" from veg to flower. If the plant is mature it usually only will take about a week like a few people mentioned. If the plant is not mature, or the environment is messed up, then it can take long though. I've had completely mature clones that normally take 7 days take about 24 days because my room had a cold snap.

I also like to point out that breeder times are a loose guideline. So please don't assume it will be done at a specific day. Your plant will be done whenever its done, and it might be around 9ish weeks. The grow environment can have a huge impact on that as well.

I strongly suggest watching the plants near the end and really waiting until they have fully matured, and finished swelling up. Its VERY VERY easy for new growers especially to harvest early, its nearly impossible to harvest too late. I've NEVER seen someone accidentally harvest plants to late in my 13 years of growing.

Thanks thunder cat. So after my first week i noticed pistls so all be going back to my original weeks.
Im new to indoo and trying my best. Ive manifolded both my plants using nebulas method.
Ive grown outdoor and have great success. I use a jewlers loop and keep an eye on my trichines. Half amber and half milky is what i prefer.
Thanks again and hooe thia thread helos others out too.
Cheers. F4L

This is a very direct and simply process that as a newbie... we should follow...

I’ve chopped early, earlier on. These last grows I’ve learned patience.. There is nothing more gratifying than watching the manifold of colas swell up while adding weight to the buds..
