How To: DWC

dont let it dry out completely, just almost, it encourages downward growth and then once you have nice roots you can let it dry it out

Thanks for the quick reply guys. So the heating pad on low is ok? I read that you have to soak for a bit to remove the limestone which causes elevated ph. As far as my rock wool is not over watered at all as it is dry in the middle if I tare it open. Thanks again guys will keep you updated.

leave your rockwool alone.. if you have a good brand a presoak works wondersdont, for the love of god, touch, open, probe.. anything to your cubes. leave em be, just make sure they dont stay wet

I opened one up to check it out prior to adding seeds and so forth, they are sitting and doing there own thing. No clue on the brand as I am in a third world country and everything here is BS. Here are my buckets with the skimmer basket coming along: I will not be duct taping the rest, I will use blackout instead with the inner lining being black and the outside white for reflective purposes. Any thoughts? Thank you.

Do you think this pump will be enough for 10 buckets? Each bucket is 10 liter but will probly hold 8-9 while they are babies.

10 liters of air per minute 5.5w is what the specs read. Thanks

Hey guys got a problem here, checked my sprouts last night before bed and a few were humped over just laying on the piece of paper on top of the rockwool.
I noticed my rockwool had dried up again so i added some water and this morning the longest one propped it self back up a bit. I removed one of the cfls and placed my second one a bit higher. I register 75 degrees and 60% humidity. Any insight? Thanks guys

1. Your cubes look too wet in the pictures (if you pick up your cube and it drips.. its way too wet, it shouldn't even drip slowly)

2. Seedlings shouldn't hunch over like that.. not until they stretch and even then they shouldn't be leaning on anything.. Give them time to dry out and see if they prop back up..

Void, was wondering if you have any experience aerating multiple(6+) buckets from one air pump? I've seen a few powerful pumps online that come w/ 12-outlet adapters. My question is, would it be advisable to run that many(12) DWC buckets from one pump? If not, what sort of pump/bucket ratio would you suggest? Thanks.

hey voidobject i gotta question, once i get my dwc system in action exactly the same as yours, what level shall i keep my ppm at for the veg cycle and for flower cycle ?
ive heard the best ph level would be between 5.6-6.1.
and can you explain ec (electrical conductivity) in easy words ?

what size of rock wool cubes are you using ?

i thought the only two readings that ill have to deal with would be ph and ppm, i have no idea about ec

it will be my first time growing dwc ive grown indoor/outdoor before but only in soil

Yeah you can run that many buckets with a commercial air pump and splitters

like the tutorial and the cooling method, but when i saw the video of the electric cords on the ground next to all that water it scared the shit out of me....

Good to know i usually try to keep all electricity above my waist and all water below my waist. I was just watching this awesome aquaponics dvd that goes over commercial hydro setups and they said the bigger the mass of water is, the easier it is to maintain temp and ph.

Void I've read the whole thread and I'm about to do exactly what you are doing but using a tent 3x3x7.
I just drop in on you thread this evening!
I've been reading about DWC (bubbler) for some time now. Other then controlling the ph and the nutes (PPM) the only serious problem that I've read about is controlling water temperature to avoid potential root problems. 18°C or 64.4°F being the ideal temperture to promote oxygenation and to avoid root problems.

Questions:
1- what water temperature are you able to reach by putting ice bottles in a pool with your 2x5gallons buckets?
2- I notice that you don't suggest putting ice bottle directly in the bucket; why is that?
3- did I understand that you have stop using ice bottles all together and are using a small air conditioner inside you closet with your air pump on top. This will cool the air and by the same token cool down the water in your buckets.

Thanks for your time
