How to get a job in the Canadian medical marijuana industry?

I am about to graduate from one of the top Canadian universities and am very interested in getting involved in the growing marijuana market in Canada. I am excited at the prospect of improving peoples lives and am inspired by the success stories I've heard with so many patients. There's also no doubt that it will become a very lucrative market within the next 10-20 years and I'd like to get involved at the ground level.

I am moving to Vancouver since it seems to be the epicenter of the growth and has the best networking opportunities. I'd like to be involved from a business perspective since I have extensive experience running startup companies and am highly skilled in sales, biz dev, and communications. I also have front end web development and online marketing skills. Many of these new marijuana businesses seem to be behind in these aspects of business. Some have barely functioning websites and I see a lot of potential for improvement. Finally, I have a passion for growing the plant and have successfully executed several larger scale personal grows.

Can anyone shed light on how they've landed jobs in the industry? How should I go about meeting the right people? Any and all tips would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you for that link. I've checked out Lift before. The job market is fairly sparse though. Only a few positions available and typically posted months ago.

Not sure.... in my opinion....that a person would want to invest too much of their time in a career...in mmj
at least for the time being....sure you can start in at the ground floor pretty easy right now but I doubt the pay is more than medial for menial jobs....unless your the top science dog at that organization...pretty good chance...it probably closer to min wage....
though from the description...of what your interests are.....sounds more like you would be suited to become an LP....with the right team behind you...

The LP's in Canada will turn into multi-million dollar businesses within the next few years. I would like to help them develop through marketing, sales, and communication. There must be opportunities for career growth there. I have no interest in becoming a trimmer or helping on the mass production side which would lean towards menial pay. I would love to help grow the plants as I have run several personal medical grows but I don't think my skillset would allow for much opportunity there since I did not go to school for horticulture.

well like you said...many of the LP's seem to be lacking....in a proper web presence...and have scrimped
and saved in this area...in lieu ... putting their resources into a good working application with Health Can. strictly to benefit the newly formed companies...and with only feigned concern for patients in most cases..
These are all opinions on my part...since I am....not a huge LP...supporter...type.
They have a use....but strictly for the gains or advantages... that patients would see....and no other reason....
In my opinion...you can not ride the coat tails of patients....to the party... and then abandon your obligation to the same patients...once a version of legalization appears on the horizon....

The LP's can't advertise or make statement so it doesn't matter about their "web presence". Their websites will be limited to fad of the year designs and smiling elderly people pictures. With how they have handled themselves so far with huge illegal transfers of weed, pump and dumps and being ran by ex MMAR abusers who the hell but someone desperate for work would want to work there. If all you care about is working for "multi-million" companies there's 1000's of them out there.

If you were really interested in their sales, marketing and communications you would have seen by now since its been all over the news that those things have been limited by the gov and rightly so.

If you have the skill sets in the fields you say you do I'd be setting up my own company part time. I'd rather work part time sweeping floors and doing creative work on the side to make my living then work for a LP

I know a couple of people who have been hired by LP's but for entry level jobs. I know my buddy's daughter is getting a whole $12/hr. It sounds like you are interested in a higher paid salary position, something I'm not an expert on. Here's a thought; why not set up your own company to provide services to the LP industry? That could be web design or you can use whatever other skills you have and hire people with skills you don't to supply whatever needs LP's have. I just don't know what those 'needs' are...research needed, but I'm sure there is some niche in a brand new industry that can be filled. Like someone else said, advertising by LP's is not allowed, but they still require an online presence.

even topic's such as this one....in essence bring awareness to and provide some inside info....about the specific LP
which is still in fact advertising..or their on-line presence...
with-out some creative thinking ...by consultants...the LP's would have been left to dangle....in the breeze...by HC and the Gov...with respect to advertising....
Now however they jump at every chance...to go public about anything.....industry related...because, out of sight will quickly become out of mind......
In most respects, it would be easier to get a hold of a black market dealer and make your purchase, ..than it would to get in touch with an LP and then be registered by....them , and then wait...for them to verify your info...accept you as a patient/customer, the take your order,......grow it,... dry it ....test it....irradiate it ....package it and then deliver it....to you....

"the above process to get weed from an lp....is only that quick ..... IF all things go smoothly
as soon as any kind of wrench gets thrown into the plans....then any kind of normal time frame....
is blown away and you can expect to wait....for how ever long...things normally take,....when people who
give zero shits...about you getting your mmj...to relieve your symptoms..."
This is a quote from my buddy...who is a mettrum...patient...
