Yes you can. I do it, but I always have an oscillating fan on the plants and the air is usually at 75 or 76. I've had it get up to 79 without an issue.

How high is the light from the plants? because my worry is that the light wont
penetrate through the top good enough from having to be raised do to heat.
im just trying to step up from cfls which i avg 30-35 grams for every 133 watts.

You're going to have humidity issues. Prolly heat as well. I see bud rot in your future.

while I was waiting for my new exhaust fan I ran my light in a 3x7 with the door open and it was ok for a temporary but there is no substitute for a proper room.

I keep mine at about a foot to 14 in during veg and 10 inches at flower.

That is a pretty safe light, keep the air moving as with anything.. you will do fine. I use one, just added a 600, my room is pretty much the same size. I had my 400 on a mover which allowed me to get it closer..hint! I did ok with it, nothing spectacular, but it worked. If you get good at training your plants down You will reap bene's also. it is best to have it enclosed with proper ventilation and to have the room a little bigger than the light you put in. 400w 4x4 room but plants in a 3x3 area so the light can go past them and bounce back off of your reflective matierial. I am not saying what you want to do won't work just that you can have better results with a proper room
I run a 2.5x3 with 1 big plant under a 400w

well I plan on using t5s for veg but really 10 to 14inches then the bulb
