HTGSupply MH/HPS Light Set up

Hey guys--

I'm just a newbie here but want to start growing something in my house. I read some of the newbie info 101 and understand that switching from mh for vegetation and hps for flowering is one of the best ways to get results.

I'm not planning on going too big, maybe just a few plants to see if I can actually get them to grow properly ( a challenge to myself!!!)

I found the light kit here :

High Tech Garden Supply

and wanted to make sure this is a good setup to have and make sure you guys approve before ordering it, since I realize there is a lot more knowledge here to gain from all of you.

Is this kit all I would need except for the soil, fertilizer?, and growing medium? Possibly a fan?

Thanks in advance for the help guys, it's really appreciated!

$3.00 more you can getthis
Wouldn't that be somewhat of overkill in my small closet when all I am probably going to be growing at a time is 2 or 3 plants?

And wouldn't it pull a little bit more power causing the electricity bill to go up that much more over the 250 w?

Not trying to contradict you, just asking what the difference would be. So this is a good site then and I'm heading in the right direction?

Any others out there want to respond? Thanks

sup dude, Don't get a 250 , get at least a 400w. they arnt that hot , as long as you have at least one intake and one exhaust, even in small places, i have a 400w stealth grow and temp are fine as long as ventilation is running. And get a hps and buy a mh conversion bulb for veg. Worth it!

lol sorry for not reading properly haha , but electricity wont be much of a prob , a pc will cost more to run that the light.

So I should get the 400 W one then? And how many plants could grow under it? Would the 400w light need a fan, and if so, could it just be a little one? Thanks guys, I'm gettin excited.

well it really depends on your grow room size. You can grow maybe 1 or 2 plants really huge or a few plants in a SOG.

with a 400W light you want to stay around 8 sq.ft of canopy space. That'll keep you around the magical 50 watt/sqft. If you have higher than 50 watts per sqft that's fine as well just be careful, because you can get light burn.

ive got a 600 from htg in my closet/cab thats an air cooled hood. i have one fan blowing thru that and an exaust fan for the room with an intake pulling air from outside temps are fine and plants are happy

the problem guys is just that I dont think I have room for 6 plants that are going to get reasonably big in my closet space, so I don't know if I need the extra power. If I only shoot one fan at the light will it be sufficient cooling for it? Thanks guys

an oscillating fan may be enough, but most likly it will be alittle too warm in there, you can buy one or 2 computer fans from bestbuy, for like 17 bucks, theones strongest ones they have near me are 75 CFM, pretty rediculose for a PC if you ask me, but for a room, you will need 2or maybe 3. exhaust is much more important than intake, if you can blow the hot air out, the cold air will get it. kind of like smoking a bong, your mouth is the exhaust, and the carb, and bowl are acting as intakes because of the exhaust. I forget what its called, but you want to circulate the air in your room somewear between 3-6 times every 5 minutes, meaning the air in the room will be replaced 3-6 times every 5 minutes. so a 100 cubic foot room would only need a 75-100 CFM fan,... in case you were wondering CFM stands for cubic feet per minute, and mesures how many cubic feet of air are being moved, well... per minute :P, 100 cubic feet may sound like alot... but its really not, that would be a room that is 5 x 5 x 4 high.
allright... I'm too high, and talking too much... does this all make sense and read alright?

Well I measured out the space in the closet, and got the dimensions of 42" or 3.5 feet tall, 17 inches deep towards the back of the closet space, and 31" wide.

What do you guys think about this will I need to go with certain strain/seeds that only grow short or are there ways to work with this area with any plants?

Thanks for the help!!

hey i just ordered 1 400mh and 1 400w hps setup from htg. in a week or so i'm gonna be ordering about 2000.00 worth of stuff from them. i'll let you know how the lights work out for me. i expect them in a few days. if heat is an issue you could always get a cool tube, or some kind of air coolable reflector. good luck!

sweet guys, makes me want to just get online and order the setup right now ---

Will I need to buy certain strains of seeds that don't grow too tall because of my constrained space? Or do I let them veg. less time and flower longer? Thanks !!

you have about 3 feet of height for plants, so I think you should be alright with any indica dominant plant, but lets get some more opinions, you may want to lollypop them, cutting all the lower branches to get one larger top bud, and not soo bushy.
