Oh no man, you really smoked banana peels? Like smoking green tea, coffee, or grass clippings, it doesn't work.

Gotta have the one and only herb.
yep, I think every freak (affection name then for a hippy) tried smoking banana peelings. Did not stone you.
I also tried CATNIP, and puked my guts up , I got so sick. Catnip will make you very dizzy. I also tried a house plant called a collus and also puked my guts up.
And I tried morning glory seeds and they really made me trip and hallucinate.
Other than that, I did not try any of the free household drugs...well, except for Vicks Nasal inhalers, I got addicted for about 6 months, eating them daily. They were BAD.

Morning glory seeds you say! Didn't try that yet and put it in the urban legend category. Every once in awhile I like to take a trip and never leave the farm!

Well it looks like us old guys have lots of fun stories...I remember back in 1970 or 71 I just got to Nam and was told to report to my sargent in our hooch.. I walked into his room and he was sitting on his bunk with an M60 ammo can in front of him filling a hav-a-tampa cigar with pot !! All I remember saying was " I'm home" I don't remember ever being straight the whole 8 months that I was there...We could get a lb. of damn good weed for a carton of Pell Mells or Kools !!And a gram of pretty pure heroin for the same...We would be on guard duty and you could look down the line of bunkers and see who was smokin buy watching the seeds pop ! I wonder what's happening in Afganistan today!?Hay GI want to buy some hash!!??

Today I met a new member here named Lid of Weed.

I have not seen that word LID in almost 40 years so I asked him how old he is, and he is 63 years old!!!!

It was so good to find someone OLDER than me here.

Back around '68 and '69 there were no such thing as BAGGIES.
Pot was sold in small paper bags and in small match boxes.
A match box full was called a Nichol Bag and cost $5 and you was supposed to get 3 average joints, or 5 very skinny joints for the $5. It might come in a piece of newpaper or paper sack.
Other than a Nichol or Dime Bag, all we had was LIDS. Pot was not sold by weight or ounces in the beginning. No one had scales. A LID was a Tobacco can, a small flat can and was supposed to be 4 Nichols for $15. You could buy a LID, sell 3 nichols and get a free Nichol to smoke. A LID was three fingers deep in a very small paper bag that was used to put candy or small stuff in at the store.
Or you could buy a pound for $80 to $120, and sell 20 lids to really make some money.
It was Dirt Mexican, lots of seeds and males and leaves and real dirt in it then. NOT very potent either.
Nice trip down memory lane, thanks. Sixty seven and sixty eight were probably two of the best years of my life. I was a young teenager, weed was fifteen bucks an ounce and LSD was everywhere. Hash in the winter, weed in the summer. We used to go out of the city, (philly) for smoke rides in the suburbs, less cops. There was a lot of dirt weed around but there was also some damn good smoke back then, sativa. I remember in 73' a buddy of mine telling me he had quarter pounds for $150, I told him he was out of his mind. After I bought the qp I realize he was not out of his mind. Columbian gold, that was as sweet as could be and it was nothing but buds. It did have seeds, wish I has some of them now. I'll soon be fifty seven, you helped me out when I first started this little hobby of ours. I'm into the third week of flowering. One thc bomb, five bomb seeds of my own little making, and four cyrstal girls from my partners making. My next grow I'm going sativa crazy. I have several hazes, some jock horror and some malawi 99. If I can grow something close to that columbian gold, I will be one happy old man. I'll soon be fifty seven. Oh those girls in bell-bottoms.

Peace

Thank you for your service. I mean that as honestly as a person can. I was old enough to catch the end but by then I had a heroin habit and was classified 4-h. I have a buddy around the corner from me who left a kidney there, I make it a point to turn him on every veterans day, besides the other hundred times a year. Thanks again.

I may have already responded to this thread, but in case I didn't, (Didn't want to read all of them to get here) I'm 70, smoked weed most my adult life. I don't smoke anymore, it doesn't do for me what it once did. Some of my history on the weed: I started smoking in 1968, in Hunting beach Ca. Lids/OZs were 10 bucks for decent enough Mexican, 15-25 bucks for top of the line like Acapulco Gold, Zacategas, Columbian gold, and my favorite, Panama red. Even to this day, I still claim Panama red to be my favorite of all times, although, Cambodian Red was a close second, and Thai sticks were a close third. I used to sell Kilos of Mexican schwag for 50 bucks. Put some duct tape over the drain in the bathtub, and break up the kilos to make lids. Unlike the guy who stated that there were no sandwich bags in '68', I certainly could get all I wanted in So. Cal, No scale either, just stuffed as much as could fit into the bag and sold them for 10 bucks, Usually they were more than an OZ. While in the tub, I'd remove most of the large stems and any seeds that fell out while processing. I'd get like 25 stuffed baggies out of a kilo, 250.00 for 50.00, pretty good profit in them days. The good stuff came in Kilos at first, for 150-200 bucks, then later they switched to LBs and kept the price the same, unless you knew the importers like I did, then you could get the Kilos. The product was shipped in Kilos and the distributers here in the US broke them up into LBs. A very profitable move, plus you could get 3-4 OZs for your personal stash out of the breakup, yeah I did that also, mostly because the importers would only let me have Kilos if I agreed to that process, My supplier usually had Kilos stacked to the ceiling in his garage, and a storage place that also held a ton or more. He would get weed from the storage place and put it in a full sized van, then drive it to his little beach cottage, open the garage door of the one car garage at around 3 AM and back up to the door and unload the van. He usually brought about 80 kilos of schwag to 20 kilos of choice weed at delivery. Guys like me, sold the schwag and smoked the choice. I used to put a good sized bowel of choice on the coffee table along with papers and also a sample bowl of the schwag. Let me just say this, at that time, most people smoked the schwag and loved it, it was cheap and got you high. If you elected to smoke choice weed, you soon got tired of schwag, but in lean times, and there were a few, even the schwag was great. The long dry spell in Ca. in 1969 even got to us mid level dealers, and luckyly, I had a couple a kilos of schwag and a couple a kilos of choice, columbian gold when the word came down that the supply route had been compromised, I sold the schwag to my best customers and smoked the choice with my friends, I ran out about the time that new shipments began arriving, I think it was a week or two of smoking the flotsam, scraping out pipes and actually not smoking before I got re-supplied, I had all my contacts searching, and finally Craig called me to come down to his beach house, Boy, the best call ever.

Catnip is nice, very minty, but don't try and hit bowls of it, a few leaves makes a nice mint tea too.

I seen something on the 'History' channel about this. Was a documentary on 'Cannabis'. I'm seeing more and more of those on television these days.. which is a great great thing because that means we're finally being heard. It means that people are at least listening to the cannabis culture now.. and some are starting to realize that its not as bad as the government 'claims' it is. It's not a "gate-way drug"; It's not "addicting"; its none of the things that the government has claimed in the history of the war on 'Cannabis'.

I don't call it the 'war on drugs' because it seems that the government included cannabis in the REAL 'war on drugs' campaign.. in the past.. and even now.. so that the 'non smokers' will automatically think its a terrible terrible terrible drug.. just like the other drugs out there. That's how they've been able to keep the 'war on cannabis' alive.. is because through the REAL 'war on drugs' - the hard drugs.. that actually ARE addicting and killing people. Cannabis is not a lethal, addicting, life ruining drug.. if anything.. cannabis is mind opener!! It gives you retrospective of life.. in itself.

I'm not gonna ramble any longer.. I just want to get the word out there.. that I truly believe, that if a man or woman that is of legal age to buy/smoke marijuana.. than that is their/my right to do so! When did we.. as humans.. get the authority to control another humans life? We never did.. not that I'm aware of. So LEGALIZE IT! Stop the phony 'war on cannabis'! If the government wants to keep the 'war on drugs' moving forward.. fine.. but do everyone a favor, take cannabis out of the chaos.

peace.
