Can somebody help me by explaining the "Subsidy as a tax credit" ? If a couple makes say $40,000 income and buys health insurance with a $700/mo subsidy, (8400/yr) With a $40,000 income , the standard deduction for a couple would be $11,400 and the exemption for 2 would total $7,300, ones taxable income would be $40,000 - $18,700 or $21,300. The tax (using the tax table ) would be $2,300.
How can you be subsidized $8400 by a tax credit when your tax itself is only $2300 ?
