I smoked saffron threads once. I read about the narcotic effects of the little red flower pistils and gave it a try one day. I had a little head change, but I'll attribute that to oxygen deprivation. At 100 bucks an ounce, Ill stick to cooking with it. Mmmm tasty Spanish cuisine.
