I have a 500 dollar budget

you need to just forget about yield. truth is you have no idea what you're going to yield, and you won't until you get growing. you're going to have to purchase some things online if you want to make your $500 budget. all you can do is create the best setup you can, do as much research as you can, and see what happens.

good luck.

I have actually done quite a bit. I was just looking at a 1500 dollar budget and the wife shut that down

My advice is go with CFLs. Easy as screwing in a light bulb. Nearly all your investment can be used throughout the house when you're done. Just make sure everything goes through a surge protector. And no ground plug adapters.

1. Books. One on CFL growing and one marijuana growers bible.
2. Beans. Get good seeds. Looking at the online catalogs is half the fun.
3. Containers. Red cups and 5 gallon buckets work, don't forget the little holes in the bottom.
4 Soil. Get good soil. The ones packaged to look like hippie stuff, those are the ones.
5. Grow area. Amazon has nice grow tents. Make it at least 5 feet tall.
6. Nutes. Miracle Grow is as good as any when you start.
7. Extension cords, bulb adapters., hangers, fans, thermometer, timer, gee-gaws and doodely-dos.
There goes a few hundred. Increase in electricity is $20 or more. Getting high with your own bud- priceless!

I have a lot of local grow stores. Other then seeds I see no reason to risk buying online

I don't like grow stores. They charge a lot, and often their service doesn't justify the higher price. Another thing about grow stores is people with plant problems go to the store looking for solutions. Everytime I go to a grow store or another grow operation, I take a shower and change my clothes before visiting my girls. I don't want to bring home mites or molds or other maladies.

it would be cheaper to use panda plastic to cordon off and make light proof a section of the basement rather than buying a tent. if you have a lot of space to work with why limit it to a few square feet? hang a 600 w hps vertical, no reflector or glass, with plants in a circle roughly 30" from the light. your biggest expense should be a good carbon filter and fan.

i've not heard of anyone having leo issues ordering gear on line, i have heard of pigs getting car tags of grow shop customers and it leading to legal headaches. unless you're getting enough equipment for a many thousand watt grow theirs nothing that's going to be noticed.

Go with the 600 unless you have a high ceiling plus the're cheaper. That's one thing I didn't think about when I set up mine. I would have been better off with two six hundred watters instead of my 1000w You get what you pay for in the package deals.GO with HPS

"I ment more like cfl or hps?.... Other then seeds I see no reason to risk buying online"

And I omitted an egregious one! Based on your name suggesting you're 59 years old, why so illiterate? I expect that from the 'text' generation, but not you.

To the heart of your inquiry, go to Depot or Lowes or Amazon and buy LED bulbs and clamps lights or bath strips. Wrap them in a towel and hammer the lenses apart. Use a mix of 2700 and 5000K or higher bulbs. Place approx. 10-15" from seedlings, 6-8" from vegging plants, 3-4" from heavily flowering plants

waaaaay riskier to buy local. police are known to monitor grow shops in order to find the ops. buying online is 100% safer. do not grow with miracle grow. that is a disaster waiting to happen. you'll water too much and your plants will suffer nute burn. go with a soilless medium and the lucas formula, that is the beginner recipee to success.

he /she is 22 according to profile. I also agree that the 'risk' of buying non commercial quantities of supplies online is negligible

I'm not to sure why this became a argue ment of my age or how bad my spelling is. But thanks for the info guys. It seems my best bet is to just buy lower quality hps and just keep it as simple as I can for my price range.

a whole basement? if smell and security(access to your basement isnt an issue then focus on the essential
Light
Soil/nutes
Ventilation
and obviously good beans
granted I haven't even started my first experience with branded seeds yet, I gotta say I don't think it would be smart on a $500 budget to blow 10%-20% on seeds when bagseed is free, and the bagseed is probably just a second or third generation of offspring from some branded seed.

OP-Is it legal in your state? is there a way you could get to a rec dispensary or have a friend with a red card go to a medical dispensary and get some clones? I haven't had good experience with dispensary clones, but at the very least all the plants would be the same.

are you planning on a 500$ budget total? Like, if you went out and spent 500$ on your setup and planted some seeds, then on your next payday would you be down to spend $50 on something like nutes or a new fan because your area is getting too hot, or a dehumidifier because RH is high, or sticky traps and neem oil and stuff for any possible pests you might discover? basically I'm saying you can DEFINITELY start (and even go start to finish) on $500, but there are going to be upkeep costs. The above things I mentioned, new lightbulbs every year, changing filters if you use a filter. So if you are not gonna be spending any more than $500, I wouldn't spend more than 400 and keep a rainy day fund personally.

but if you will spend money on this in the future, by all means spend what you can now

Starting with bag seed means you need to check sex before taking any clones. You will add in 2-3 weeks before the first harvest. You only need 1 good fem seed to get started, 10% would get him 1 of each of 3-4 varieties + freebies. Worth the investment.
