"It's clearly a crisis of two things: of consciousness and conditioning. These are the two things that the psychedelics attack. We have the technological power, the engineering skills to save our planet, to cure disease, to feed the hungry, to end war; But we lack the intellectual vision, the ability to change our minds. We must decondition ourselves from 10,000 years of bad behavior. And, it's not easy."
~Terrence McKenna
that quote made so little sense and the named source was completely foreign to me, so i gizzoogled that dizzude.
"Terence Kemp McKenna (November 16, 1946 – April 3, 2000) was an American ethnobotanist, philosopher, psychonaut, researcher, teacher, lecturer and writer on many subjects, such as human consciousness, language, psychedelic substances, the evolution of civilizations, the origin and end of the universe, alchemy, and extraterrestrial beings." ~wikipedia
that description could be better summed up by two words: "Professional Stoner"
the only thing he wrote that i was even familiar with was "food of the gods" and thats only because it's got the same title as a shitty 1970's eco-horror D-movie with rampaging giant bunnies and other shit thats scary as fuck when your 15 and stoned off your ass.
you led me down a rabbit-hole of crazy.
thanks bro!
He was a brilliant man anyway. I have loved listening to Terrence McKenna for years. Besides, would you want to hear about psychedelic experiences from someone who wouldn't try them? Another thing, he wasn't into the New Age thing, that is common and you may come across it somewhere, but it isn't true, he was educated at UC Berkely. Shamanism deserves to be studied imo, but I think it is unjust that the only way psychedelics can be studied is through shamanistic initiation. Glad you like it though.
Can't you get all the knowledge this person "unlocked" by just consuming the substances listed in his writings?Terrence McKenna was once described by Tim Leary as "one of the 5 most important people in the world".
Can't you get all the knowledge this person "unlocked" by just consuming the substances listed in his writings?
Our Druids used mushrooms to get their "trance on"... Canna wouldn't agree tho, because picking the mushrooms harms cow-shit and cow shits "are people too" you know.
Oh Iv expanded it to "breaking point" bro, trust me on thatExpand your consciousness.
Imo McKenna was a crazy old phamacoStalinist. Oversoul, my left bunion. cn
Same here. cn
Why would you call him a Stalinist of any sort? Maybe I'm missing something I wouldn't want to overlook.
Years ago i read some long flatulent tract of his ... when he was done talking about machine elves, he went on to claiming DMT could bring us all together into a collective mind. If that ain't Stalinism in tie-dye, fry me for a porkchop.
Let's just say that none of my DMT experiences align[ed] with his. cn
