now you got a bunch of questions? sheesh. :wall:

:bigjoint::bigjoint::bigjoint::bigjoint:

i can fit 5 or 6 small sized spoons in the kiln at once with a marble or 2 in between. i can also add a second shelf if needed.

the full cycle on the kiln is about 7 hours, not counting "work time".

i haven't getten my electric bill yet. i'm nervous.

that seems like a decent amount of room ... looks like they run about 1200watts which to me would probably cost like .26 per hour:wall:

are you using a standard bbq propane tank ?
what do you think of the red max torch ?
looks similar to the 900$ one in ur link

yes, a 5 gallon propane tank. 1 tank of propane lasts thru 3+ tanks of oxygen.

i don't know anything about torches.

how bout lets talk about design methods . . . I've always wondered about the technique to the patterns on pieces . . .

You weren't asking me... but here's my $.02:
I run my kiln at around 900 while I'm working; 1000 before making an attachment; bring it up to 1050-1100 at the end of the day to anneal.

what temp do you put it at to do pipes ?
... how long does it need to be on for ?
what kind of power usage ?

i'm garaged at 1050 for 6 hours. i can skip to the next step when i'm done so i don't have to hold for the full 6 hours. this just gives me a lot of time to work. i was at 3 hours and was trying to "beat the clock". not a good thing.
i ramp up to 1150 for color striking and hold there for an hour. i was told 15 mins for every 1/4 inch of thickness and my marbles are an inch plus.
then i do a slow ramp and hold to 900 for 30 mins.
then slow ramp and hold at 700 for 30 mins.
then shutdown.

it's worked so far. :)

what is/how do you color strike?

i think you should keep making regular pipes, they look awesome, especially the fire on ice duo;-)

it would be cool if you throw some pics up showing you making the pipes and blowing them. just a suggestion and not a written law

over half the posts in this thread = "nice pipe, now make a ........."
once again, why is everyone telling me what to do? it's been brought up already. :wall:

so "make a sherlock" and "you should try making a sherlock" are really that different?

it is really annoying. i'm am trying to focus here. this shit ain't easy. :bigjoint::bigjoint::bigjoint:
I only plugged the vortex pipe because you could easily do that if you just blew your pipe shafts bigger, its not like doing a sherlock holmes pipe or a bong or some shit.

I think it would be relatively easy to make given your current skill level, and no physicist...

Take some string, wrap it around the largest circumference where you want the holes, then see how long that is and space out holes evenly (string length/3) then draw something on the glass to mark where you want to poke them.

I'm just really curious about this, I have tried to talk to people that blow glass but I never get around to showing them this. :wall:

Not really trying to tell you what to do, the idea is out there if you ever wanted to try something unconventional.
