i just bought 100 dollars worth of glass

i'm about ready to throw things. :cuss:


everything i have been making is cracking. or has some type of flaw. it's pissing me off. it looks really good then i look a little closer and find a chip, or a scratch, or a crack. :wall:
 
are you annealing your pieces in a kiln or at least flame annealing your piece? Vermiculite is also good to use if you don't have an oven

no, i'm cooling them on a piece of cold steel. :roll:












i've been doing a lot of blow outs. i love the colors i'm getting and i think i'm gonna stick with this style. when i'm blowing it out i'm leaving it too thick and the colors are cracking. i need to blow them out a little thinner.



made this today. friggin' grabbers left scratches on it (on the left towards the top). i can throw it back in the kiln and then hit it with a flame and polish them out, but i'd rather not have to. it would be nice to get it right the first time. then i roll it over and see it has 3 cracks in it. :evil:

sorry to hear man, frustrations suck.

Looks a bit heavy, but it is pretty damn good for one of your first tries. Recently in my Chem class i took some of the glass and heated it up over bunsen burners and made myself a glass down pipe
 
damn fdd you got skills man!! what can't you do.....I guess that question doesn't matter cause it seems like if there was something you wasn't good at, you'd pick it up pretty quick anyway.........I HATE you :evil:

this is actually 5 sections of tubing welded together end to end then shaped into a pipe. it is my "first" sectional and it came out pretty much perfect as far as welds and function. the colors are funky though. IMG_2929.jpg IMG_2931.jpg
