There's just not enough info behind LED for people to jump on that bandwagon yet. Everyone uses HID for the most part as they know it works and it works well.

I dunno i've seen my friend Led grow but he bought 2 50$ led lights with the 100$ circle one and grew nice plants.. but i agree i would rather go with HPS over led. because u can buy a 150-400 watt for around 100-200$ and make it well worth the money.

i wouldnt buy that. i have 2 90w tri band ufo's and while their good for veg they dont have the light penetration you need to get dense buds for flowering. the 3 watt bulbs for led's might work for flowering but their way expensive. in my opinion get an HID. HTG supply would be a great place 2 buy. honest & reputable. if youre on a budget get a HPS with an interchangable MH bulb and you can use the same ballast for veg/flower. i got a 400w w/euro aircooled hood and its great. heat is not an issue. good luck.

I'm sure there will be quite a bit since this is my first time. I started with 6 seeds, down to three seedlings. One is laying over on the edge of the cup then moving upwards from there, one the leaves have two different shades of green, and the one that i thought was going to be the healthiest of the 3 has started getting yellow spots on the leaves. All of the reading that i have done on here leads me to believe that i am either A: watering them too much or B: I really shouldn't have used miracle grow as the medium. I wouldn't have thought that there would be this much to all of this but I am finding that I was very wrong in my adventure so far. I'm going to hold off on watering the one for a couple days and see if that is the spots clear up.

@Breakneck...I checked out Calyx's site and thats a bit more money than i want to spend at this stage of my growing career however i do have another question for you. I'm thinking of building my own panels. There are a lot of different terms that i'm trying to familiarize myself with. I was wondering what your level of knowledge was as far as the individual lights go. For example:
What do you get out of this when you see it? Hopefully it makes sense to you. I think that I am starting to understand it and what i can come up with is that per bulb I can get about 3.725 lumens per bulb. I have yet to figure out how to get individual bulb wattage out of this information though...any thoughts?

First off you want at least three solid wavelengths. Red, blue, and orange work the best. I see those use a 150 degree viewing angle which is pretty horrifying, lol. 90 degree viewing angle is the sweet spot if you want any kind of penetration into the canopy.
At 3.725 lumens per bulb you're better off buying some CFL's. The Calyx systems are roughly 80 lumens per watt. 100 lumens per watt in the 3w chip models.

i do not believe in LED lights for growing sick, dank bud! Plants need more then one or 2 accute spectrums of light for ultimate terpiniod, and canabinoidal production. LED's, or light emitting diodes only produce one spectrum of light. Sure, 650nm has a very high photosynthetic response, but the plant is also responsive to lots of other light spectrums, the photosynthetic response range is believed to be between 350nm and 700nm, and the fact is, an hps light produces a much, much more wide spectrum, with a slight focus on the five to six hundred nanometre spectrum, meaning a more wide spread photosynthetic response. Sure, the LED will grow a plant, but the HPS will grow a much better, stronger, and potent plant. LED's used in unison with another source of light works much better, and for reasons stated above.

While I do appreciate the ability of the HPS/MH HID light systems, I have 2 very nosy children and they don't really need to find "daddy's grow room" I'm not planning on selling anything I grow, or take a hit and veg till the next day. All i need is something that is readily available to me so i don't have to wait for someone to come through for me. That is what has my interest peaked in LED in the first place. Size, operating cost, and the potential of success whether amazing or average. As long as i get a smokeable result that does what it is intended to do....for now.

im sure leds will become more advance in a few years, but as of now im gonna stick with hid.
anyone evr use a dual arc bulb? (hps and mh in one lightbulb) if so, are they good? and worth the price?
