if lowes is your route I can help you out I was there the other day. They have a product, in socal lowes called "patio plus" by kellogs. It is like fox farm ocean forest but for 5 dollars. USe that straight from the bag, it has perlite in it. Then just use alaska fish emulsion 5-1-1 for veg and the alaska fish emulsion for flower 0-10-10 for flower. Feed every other week once they are three weeks or a month old and you are ready for a minumum investment. If I were to grow soil again or outside that is what I would use as the price is right and the mix is guaranteed to win.
The mix i gave earlier is for a "water only" grow. Only add water. This one gets results too. Fish is smelly tho.
Also if you go with just peat moss you can use orchid food to feed the soiless mix of just peat moss. ORchid food is essentially hydroponic soiless food.
