Sometimes I take my trim and after removing the larger leaves and doing a quick cure, I'll grind and roll joints. Works great when you want a milder dose. Supposedly its harsher but I couldn't tell. I just noticed it was weaker. If you want it to have a stronger taste, bring the moisture up using distilled water. For a smoother hit smoke it when it's dry.
Also small glass, ceramic, and metal pipes are the harshest. A well aged wooden pipe (briar, pear, or corn) absorbs moisture in the smoke as well as heat so it will feel smoother. Bongs filled with ice water is my favorite way to enjoy a smooth hit and taking deep hits also exercises your lungs. No need to hold in the smoke though as that just makes your heart work harder and starves your body of oxygen. Another option if you can afford it is to use a vaporizer. It requires more weed then a bong but less than joints and significantly reduces tars and carcinogens while also letting you get the full flavors and aromas while you inhale.
