I'm not really sure why conservatives believe that, as most of them can't stop talking about how much America has turned to shit the past few decades, everything except equal opportunities apparently, and yet every measurable statistic says otherwise; significantly higher cost of secondary education, stagnating or lower wages (no overtime, no benefits, less full time positions available, etc.), higher cost of living, higher gas prices, higher food prices, higher insurance prices for younger people, to name a few..
Imo, for conservatives to admit this would mean they'd have to give up the "do it yourself" argument, and beyond that, what is there?

Sure, I agree. But the degree of force with which you utilize that right is probably where I'd disagree, I'm not really sure on your stance.
For example, if I run a business, my right to "refuse an association" with someone who comes into my shop disappears because of the laws of the country we live in, given each of the parameters you listed (black, white, gay, etc.)
If I don't want to hang out with black people, gay people, women, whatever, that's my right, but I don't have the right to refuse someone a good/service based on those things. I have the right to open shop in some place that does allow me to refuse people my goods/services.

You have the government and property relationship a bit askew I'm afraid. BECAUSE of government, there is no real private property or certainly not much of it.
I believe that individuals that homestead unowned property own it, since they have mixed their labor with the environs.

Liberals & conservatives these days feel the exact same pressures, I try to stress this point as much as anything I espouse on this site, the common struggle we all face today isn't a left v. right issue, it's an economic issue that is better characterized (but still not the total picture) by an up v. down issue. I've worked side by side with some of the most conservative people I've ever met, all of us making near the same amount, all with the same ideas/solutions/complaints..
That's particularly why it makes me so sick when I see millionaires who supposedly represent us on TV telling us what we need or what's best for us. None of them give a fuck about us. Liberals & conservatives alike soak it the fuck right up..
