My space is 30" x 30" x 5 feet.
Currently using Mars II 900w (411w draw). Also used during most of vegging were T5HO's.

After this grow I want to draw less wattage at the wall with better coverage and results. The electric rates where I live are some of the highest in the USA.

Are there DIY LED kits for purchase anywhere and if so what specs would be good for my space? I don't have a lot of tools to build from scratch. Thanks
You don't need a lot of tools. Check out my signature it will answer some of your questions

Those bulbs look so fragile. Remember i used to be scared of them cracking when i'd screw them in and there was friction

Now i throw the cobs around like little frisbees

So the reflector isn't washable? You must be kidding o_O

They do look like one of the best hids. I never really cared for the ballast attaching to the reflector though..
The reason for reflector replacement is lumen depreciation due to tarnish/corrosion of the surface being in a humid greenhouse/grow room environment

I am liking all this diy cob talk going on around here but really want to see the results. Is the herb grown under 1000w of led more potent, colorful, denser, fragrant than that grown under a 1000w Gavita? I think that is what is going to have to be demonstrated to get the masses on the led band wagon.
Clearly all the original led hype of better results with half the watts was just bullshit

or would the 3070s be better?
The combo looks great. Haven't been checking cob stocks...may have to break down and get a few of those 3590s.

If you don't mind the higher voltage driver than the 3590 at 700ma should be good. I don't know if theres a better bin available anywhere...haven't been keeping up lately

If you don't mind kingbrite, they might have a higher bin in 3500k if i remember right. I'd probably go with digikey since they have a good bin in stock

Looking to expand the veg/mother area a bit and was thinking the newish cob type leds would do well, anyone have recommendations ?

What is the best site to buy leds/led peripherals off of?

What is the best combination of colors for full grows?

Are there any advantages/disadvantages to using larger vs smaller watt LEDS? For example 2x 50 watts vs 33 x 3 watt. (Aside from being able to mix colors)
.
Will one of you DIYers help me out. :(

I can't seem to find anything on this.

So then what would a 500w cob setup consist of layout wise that could cover a full 5x5 and give the same result as say a 1000w Gavita?
1000W Gavita is tough to beat. I'd say that 25 CXB3590s @350mA would be very close in performance. That would be - ballasts/drivers included - 605W of LEDs vs 1085W of Gavita.

This one from Switzerland? http://www.leoledgrow.com/

"The innovative iSpectrum LED Grow Light Series offers intelligent functionality, a sleek and sophisticated design and a wide illumination footprint, while maintaining optimum PAR results. Following LED's were selected for our iSpectrum Grow Light.
10W CREE XP-L
5W CREE XB-D
3W Osram Oslon SSL
5W Optotech ED-612IRS"

Coming/available soon, so hard to say, I guess way too expensive.

What do you gus think of "leoled"? Looks pretty good and they have a store near where I live.

They are pretty slick looking panels. But only 7x11" covering close to a 3x4' area with lenses on 17 leds? A center reading of 1k umol makes me think the falloff is gonna be drastic... it may light up a 3x4, but with what kind of numbers.

I'd ask what color temp for each model of led, and what bin.

I do like the rails though. Very cool

It doesnt list the price yet. They are very new...I think they will cost a lot since it's Switzerland(very expensive) and they appear to have some very high tech features.

Hi again!!
Here in my country (Spain) we have some goods lamps , called "TGL" or "todogrowled" . I am looking his website now, and they have some grow panels with CXA 3070 AB (the best BIN , I think)
Do you think that the lamps have good price? I am thinking on buy the TGL-2CXA 3070 model. It has 120W about 250 USD.

Thanks

^^ not for what they are. Glad they're using quality emitters. But the amount of cosmetic work that went into it (and i don't know the drivers or heatsink specs).....doesn't make it worth 250 bucks.

You could but an exact replica for a fraction of what you'd pay for that.
