I'm about to get hit by Irma so....

So I'm almost directly in the path of Irma and the hurricane is looking like it's getting closer and closer to landing a direct hit on my area. I have 4 girls that are 1 week into flower that I desperately want to make through this storm. It's almost guaranteed that I'll lose power for a while so I'm considering leaving them outside after the storm passes. Lights are on at 8am off at 8pm. This is the furthest I've gotten in a grow and the amount of money and time put into this just to get nothing out again would really be shitty for me. I want to know if me changing their light schedule by putting them outside could potentially herm them or cause other damage. Also looking for any advice on how any of you would handle this situation so your girls could keep growing. Really tryin to make this work!!

Leave em and hope for best. A long night will hurt them less, if at all, than a short night, so even if ur place looses power while ur gone, cuz u shud go, its ur best bet. When you get back if all is in tact and no juice, you could consider bringing outside, though you may need to put em in shade to get em used to outside light.

NOW DONT PUT YOURSELF IN DANGER FOR A PLANT, please....

It is late enough in the season that your plants will be fine outside.

So tell us again which of them is worth risking your life for?

I might get a seed and plant it as a memorial...

What I would do is pack up my light, ballast, etc... Put that equipment where it will be the safest. Grab my important documents, photo's, emergency supplies, etc... Get in my car and get the hell out of there. I thought we had it bad with the smoke from the forest fires but that isn't anything as bad as what's coming your way. Time to go. Stay safe.

Thanks for the concern everyone. I'm most Likely evacuating tmrw and am torn if I should leave the lights up or take them down. If I take them down they could be in darkness for up to about 72 hours I think. What will happen to them then? I'm pretty concerned about the lights because they're a 400w pre built set up of cobs by timber so I reaalllyyy don't want to lose those. I guess wish me luck

if you're in the path of Irma, there probably won't be anything of your house left to worry about the grow. if somehow there is something of your house left, there won't be any electricity to continue your grow. get out of dodge. good luck.

You are worried about the wrong things. Go draw as much cash as you can, put your electronics like phones in ziplock bags, and start packing.

You've left yourself without any kind of a safety margin. Being stuck in your car during a hurricane is just about the worst possible place, right behind surfing the break while it comes ashore.

Of course everyone counsels you to get out, because they are sensible. But they are not Floridians.

Floridians (and I count myself among you though I no longer reside there) are typically over sexed, over medicated, under educated, sun baked semi slackers. Florida sure can be a lot of fun!

I will quote my very good friend who survived Irma's direct hit on St Thomas. He texted me just before they lost power, "I can barely believe I'm watching on a computer as the eye of the biggest hurricane in history bears down on my home. Man proposes. God disposes. We'll see what happens".

Agree with Father Ramirez, Floridians are different breed. Atm, breezy in here, just drove through the beach area (A1A) and saw few people in the beach, including their kids. I know, you guys might think its stupid but I guess only Floridians understand Floridians. My ex went to Tampa to avoid the storm last wednesday night, except this time Tampa seems to be the main target of the storm. So they been in the move and have to deal with no hotel/motel stay, traffic jam in 75. They been in the road, stopping and resting were they can but still moving. They are now in Alabama. She said to me, they better off if the've stayed. I keep them updated as to the path of Irma and the weather condition.

When hurricanes (any hurricanes) is about to hit Florida, its hard to predict where the eye is gonna hit. The only Floridians can do is hope for the best. You can run North and/or West and you can still end up with the same scenario. Often times, the Carolinas and Georgia are on the same path. So where are you gonna go? Unless you have the money and you have booked your entire family (including pets) to fly out of Florida in a short notice, there's really not much alternative for floridians except to hunker down.

I75 is still jam with people constantly in the move, looking for a place to stay, the psychological impact to these people has more lasting impact than any hurricane. Guess where are these people gonna go when the next hurricane comes?

I'll definitely put myself in the stubborn and crazy Floridian category, but the storm is now officially projected to go right over me. Everything is packed and I'll be driving to the east coast to hopefully get a hotel room and wait it out. I have a lot of people telling me gas is an issue and finding a hotel up north is impossible now. The east coast seems like my best bet and I'm not at all worried about the storms that'll hit that area.
